Support Trump

Did anyone actually ever say that a golf course would replace oil industry jobs? The highest figure for permanent employees I've seen is only 12-1400 and that was for the full development.

Actually no - Trump himself claimed that golf/the scheme would replace the entire oil industry.

And initially he claimed around fifteen hundred jobs would result from the scheme.  It rose and fell for some time after that.

Life is too short to go dredging back through the remaining press coverage to provide links but a search of the Scotsman website will turn-up the jobs reference fairly quick.

In addition, Trump Org made some rather specific/quantifiable and fantastic claims about what the scheme would do to the overall incomes in the City and Shire - and Trump has stated that the course has met all its economic objectives for the last three years.   :D

See, I asked the question because that claim has been made before and I couldn't find it when I searched, all the coverage i've seen about the number of jobs has been clear that the initial construction staff are included in this 1500. So i'm not sure that these claims represent a thing that was actually said.

I'm not any kind of Trump supporter so i'm happy to be proven wrong, i'm just interested cos it's happening round here.

Two references to the original claims here:

http://www.cybergolf.com/golf_news/trump_gets_approval_for_golf_resort_in_scotland

http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2008/nov/03/scotland-donaldtrump

Although a lot of the most gushing initial coverage in the EE/P&J is no longer online (unless you subscribe?) - that's where the most preposterous claims tended to surface first.

I think Alex Salmond claimed that, and it was a figure for the whole of Scotland.........

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/donald-trump-fails-to-deliver-on-golf-resort-jobs-pledge-8693854.html

Rather than remember things, why not find that Scotsman article with the claims about replacing the Oil industry?

Cos you've so far said three completely different numbers, none of which have a Donald Trump quote to back them up........

The two articles above say 1400 permanent jobs and attribute the other claims you've made to Salmond btw.

No -  it was a specific claim for the Menie development.

I think his claim about replacing the oil industry was in a radio or TV report.

There have been a lot more than three numbers claimed in relation to this - At times they seemed to change on a weekly basis.

Yes, that was Salmond parroting tTrump's initial claim.

The golf one cites Trump as saying "at least 1200", not miles off.

edit: "At least 1200" apparently comes from a survey commissioned by Trump, originally.

You're fairly flogging a dead horse here - that documentary and the quote both use the figure of 6 or 7 thousand jobs as being at a national level.

And nowhere in the STV article does it say that all of these 4000 jobs will be in Aberdeen.

I think that since even your sources are saying what I'm saying you should stop arguing....

So how many golf courses/resorts result in substantial dispersed employment, to the order of several times the number of the prime location, especially when their entire sell as been on how much "wealth" they will bring to the local area.....?  And Trump Org did define that geography quite clearly in their posts on a now-defunct board.

No, the whole "benefit to Scotland" thing was just a ruse to try and make the scheme, Trump and his scheme/campaign seem more important/bigger than it really was.

And you really can't argue with the actual spend since - As well as the evidential statements to the PLI and the Court of Session, Trump's own accounts demonstrate just how comprehensively he has lied since day one!

I don't have any interest in the effect a golf course has on the local economy.

I only asked where Trump said that his Golf Course would replace the Oil industry because I couldn't find the quote.....

Your remembering of where Trump said things has changed a lot in the last 2 days. First it was in the Scotsman, then it was on TV and now it was on a defunct board. Isn't it time you admitted that there's a fair chance he never said it, and that other things he's been accused of saying were actually said by Alex Salmond?

Since I'm not on Trumps side I've got no problem agreeing he's been a liar, seems to me that Salmond has lied just as much about the same thing though.

And there is some evidence that the course has brought increased revenue to a wider area of Aberdeen: http://www.scotsman....-year-1-2998548

That report has already been quoted - and it doesn't say that those 4000 jobs are in Aberdeen.

Keep up........

I'm not going to read through this thread again but I remember voraciously supporting Trump and his golf course (and arguing with lepeep, who I still think is a cunt).

Yeah I backed the wrong horse here.

I think it's about time we all stopped referring to the man as "Trump" and showed him the respect a man of his stature demands. I think "Mr. Trump" would be a much more fitting monicker this visionary of a man. Can we edit the thread title to "Support Mr. Trump"? It's only right.

That's pretty hilarious. Hindsight is 20/20 of course. Most of us knew fuck all about Trump back then. He was fairly liberal back then anyway. I always hated his whole vibe and thought he was pretty lame in all those meetings they showed on STV and such. Outside of that, all I really knew was he owned real estate and casinos and was a bit of a laughing stock.

I remember being pro-golf course initially, just because I like golf. As soon as the story started to unravel and the weird promises started coming out I flip flopped but I still didn't have much of an opinion of the guy other than he looks and sounds like a tool.

now, I never knew I could harbour so much hate for a single person. I hope he gets thrown in jail somehow (Russia, dodgy finances, etc - I'll take anything) then suffers a massive coronary once everyone has forgotten about him so he doesn't become some alt-right martyr.

By this point I'd given up screaming into the void and I was just openly trolling.

At the risk of opening up old wounds, I still don't think building  the golf course itself was a bad idea, but I can say that I disapprove of his bullying tactics (which I didn't really know much about until I saw You've Been Trumped years later) and I definitely hate the cunt behind it.

Now that's out in the open let's get that fucking City Square thread back on the go as well. Another one that only me and Dave supported :D

Thought this thread was about farting in public after your wife farts so she doesn't feel awkward and alone.

My mistake.

I decided to read from start, couldn't get past the first page.

Dave telling someone they're racist for using the word "Yank", then doing some sort of alt-right "logic" to explain how "paki" isn't racist because they aren't a race and it actually means "pure".

Jesus fucking christ. Remember when y'all used to get up in arms at me taking about taking a dump? Aye, scat wasn't even as low as this place got at times.

When I was young I got told it was illegal to fart in public. I believed it up until about half an hour later when I ripped one and I didn't get lifted.
