Best cover versions ever

If I don't do it someone else will!

My vote goes to The Clash - "I Fought The Law", not only one of the best covers ever, but one of the best songs ever.

I also love the Red Hot Chili Pepper's version of the Sly & The Family Stone song "If You Want Me To Stay".

Faith No More's "Easy", anyone?

This one could run and run....

The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man, Chimes of Freedom, most of their Dylan stuff actually.

And while The Clash's version of I Fought the Law is good the original by The Bobby Fuller Four pisses all over it.

Heck yeaaah. I love their cover of You Ain't Goin' Nowhere (which incidentally is also covered by the Coal Porters, who do a fantastic Bluegrass take on Teenage Kicks).

Others...

Lemonheads - Mrs Robinson (although not as good as the original)

Preisdents of the USA - We Ain't Gonna Make It

Ry Cooder - Bourgeois Blues and Big Bad Bill

Blues Brothers - theme from Rawhide

I have lots of favourites but at the moment both of my favourites are by Camera Obscura. Their cover of Abba's Super Trouper is absolutely heartbreaking genius, and their cover of Sheena Easton's Modern Girl is a piece of brilliant Indie-Pop female empowerment. I may never have children because I will never love them as much as I love Camera Obscura.

Low have done a few fantastic cover versions of some very wonderful original classics,

whats interesting is that they are always fantastically chosen, always special & always Low.

a couple that spring to mind are

Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me by The Smiths (try playing them back to back)

Fearless - Pink Floyd (aye the one with the Liverpool maybe now a Celtic footy anthem)

Nice, very nice...................

the human league - you've lost that lovin feeling

marc and the mambas - terrapin

cabaret voltaire or the wedding present - theme from shaft

speaking of the wedding present they've done heaps of interesting covers - its not unusual, step into christmas, come up and see me make me smile, go wild in the country...

Does anyone remember that "Help" album that came out in 95 to support Warchild or something?

Sinead O'Connor did a version of Ode to Billy Joe on that that was amazing.

Can I also add Always on my Mind by Willie Nelson.
