Guitar refinishing

Recommended Posts

After getting the last lace sensor pickup for my Fender Stratocaster, I was hoping to get it refinished, hopefully getting unique artwork on it. It is currently salmon pink, so I'd I would like something alot less garish.

I know it isn't the most straightfoward things refinishing due to the laquers and what not, so I know I can't do it myself. Does anybody know anyone who would be able to help?

Fixed that sentence for you.

Did you fit the pickups yourself? I was thinking of upgrading the ones on my main guitar but I fear making a hash of it.

If you know your wasy around a soldering iron, it should be no problem.

That would be the problem...

Mind you I guess I could just get someone who knows how to solder to show me how to do it.

Just go and do it, as long as you keep the finish covered up and don't drop the soldering iron on it like I did with my Gretsch (d'oh!) you'll be fine.

Back on topic:

Jan, nooooooooooooooo! (Darth Vader stylee)

Your salmon pink strat is so damn cool, totally ace colour. Aside from that, I don't think I would recommend doing it unless you are sending it away to some professional - amateur home results will look "OK" on a home project guitar, but it will probably just end up looking a bit crappy and you'll wish you had left it alone.

I dunno, currently its looking a bit Hank Marvin. Although, I do appreciate what yr saying about the possible horrors of it looking amateurish.

You see, I don't think it looks Hank Marvin, I always associate Hank with Fiesta Red rather than Salmon Pink.

To me, it's just an amazingly cool custom colour, up there with Sea Foam Greenand daphne blue in my book. As far as I'm concerned it just shouts out "I'm so damn straight I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to have a pink guitar."

Came damn close to buying this last year until I found out it had a satin finish:
