BLACK SUN new album HOUR OF THE WOLF

for those not familiar with the music of glasgow's finest 'art-doom' outfit Black Sun...'supremely dark and claustrophobic/a post Swans and Khanate brew of slow, crushing riffs, noise abstractions and seething demons'...kinda says it all

go check out Black Sun - You Won't Like It for history

aaaanyway....HOUR OF THE WOLF!! recently scoring 8/10 in Terrorizer id say this is the best thing BS have done to date, (although i do love Sacred Eternal Eclipse)....Hour of The Wolf is the business....mixed and mastered by James Plotkin (khante/KKnull/Khlyst) with additional mixing by Billy Anderson (Swans/Melvins/Neurosis) there's a slight sonic change applied to this album, which sounds amazing!

to be lazy and quote Terrorizer this album 'should satisfy all those pining for the early, bruising days of Swans or Godflesh..'. definately.

you can hear Disintigrate to Khrist at www.myspace.com/legionofblacksun better still track down the album and listen to it all!

so...LOOK OUT FOR BLACK SUN IN ABERDEEN IN SEPT!

cheers rebecca :)

black sun have actually played aberdeen before, once (or was it twice) at dr drakes...we had a failed attempt last year so glad to have them coming back in sept.

incidentally this gig will be the first night of a week long Freshers Week music programme at the Tunnels with a rock/metal clubnight running afterwards.....nice bit of brutality to ease the students in hehe

erm why?! o_O

think he meant the choice of venue for BS

tbh i think BS will be fine in the tunnels if they turn em up loud enough and have very little lights. they always do fine at creating that minging atmosphere. sonically they are amazing. i recommend scotty lessed for sound that night :)

good to see sharon getting her mojo back though :D

just a quick note here to say that FRIDAY NIGHT GUNFIGHT will be playing the BLACK SUN gig mentioned....ACE....for fans of any of this lot...The Dillinger Escape Plan...Cave In ....Botch..Converge.....The Red Chord...Keelhaul...Ion Dissonance....Cult of Luna....The End

hopefully this sunday at drummonds they will wet your appetite in the run up to this gig.....

a wee review...

Taking a nosebleed dive right into ferocious hardcore, Friday Night Gunfight clamber their way out with some thrash jazz tectonics and head bending riff physics and they even dare to go all post-rock wall-of-noise at the end, lending a tremendous psychedelia to the violence. Vocalist Guss's lungs scrape, roar, shout and tear their way over the ever changing battery, a fact brought out by some spot-on production. Maybe one day, if they're really lucky, they might even be Kerrang! darlings. - Ali Maloney - The Skinny

local support still to be 100% confirmed
