A first for Aberdeen: Japanese powerhouse the Boredoms play. For over 14 years, the Boredoms have been pummelling the minds and ears of unsuspecting listeners with their blend of noise and psychedelia and they’ve achieved a certain cult status amongst an international audience on the basis of their prolific record releases and near-legendary gigs. Having been championed by Nirvana and Sonic Youth amongst many others, the Boredoms were originally grouped with the emerging No Wave Japanese noise artists of the late 1980s and early ‘90s, but have now moved toward more interesting and melodic musical territory in recent years, maintaining a delicate balance between precise time changes and complex instrumentation while keeping a loose and improvised feel.

However for many the allure of the Boredoms lies not in their recorded music but in the perfect spectacle of their live performances, which manage to transcend genres and people’s personal music taste and have wowed audiences the world over. Their live show consists of a singer and three drummers (one of whom, Yoshimi, is the very same Yoshimi immortalised by the Flaming Lips), borders on performance art and is genuinely, astonishingly good as well as being insanely good fun. The performance will be filmed and projected from onstage.

“I’ve not seen a better live band these past few years; phantasmagorically brilliant” Uncut magazine

“A beautiful, rhythmic gallop of harmonic singing, freeform piano, chaotic harp and some of the most insane drumming you will ever hear in your life.” Billboard

“On occasion, when asked, I’ve been known to tell people Boredoms are the best rock band ever." Pitchfork
