No great loss. He was intelligent enough to know that the racist material he performed did have an effect on the knumbskulls who came to see him. No matter what his PR says, he did nothing but harm to race relations in this country.

Bernard Manning wasn't racist! I never once heard him slag off the British Grand Prix, the Grand National, or the London Marathon.

Ho ho, coat got....

Funnily enough I was in Manchester the other week and drove past the "world famous" Embassy Club.

why all the anti manning posts? let the man rest in peace!

so what, he told jokes. racist jokes were ok until political correctness came into effect (see "love thy neighbour") were they not?

Jim davidson though, please hurry up and "leave the building".

Guh?? Would that possibley be because racism itself was viewed as less moronic too?

I think you've missed the point. Love thy neighbour was actually very 'politically correct' (bollocks phrase) in that it depicted the racist husband as colossally stupid, with the enlightened wife being the clever one. viz-a-viz Alf Garnett.

Manning had the opposite effect. He gave racists an excuse for being racists. It was never 'ok', but he went some way to making it appear so.

I suspect you know that though.

erm, what does that have to do with anything? Unless you're thinking the fact that the word begins with 'nigg' is relevant?

*it's not...*
