Emo exposed

The scariest thing is that's not satire.

It could have came straight off the daily show, I always knew they must have got their inspiration from real news but I guess I hoped it wasn't that close.

I even searched for ABC 4 news in case it was some kind of satire program, but it's not :(

My main objection was the way that guy made I'll Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie into some kind of suicide pact anthem!

Half the footage they used was taken from internet videos satirising 'Emo culture'.

Yeah, I know, I was getting worried about what people think of me, I listen to Plans quite often...

the problem with 'anti-emo' humour is that it's so old...'funny posts' like this have honestly been regularly posted on aberdeen-music for at least 5 years. Remember Emo Juice? That big joke was at its prime when I was in 5th year at School.

this isnt emo.

it's just losers wearing dumb clothes.

They'd never catch you subscribing to such a meaningless fashion, right?

why is it seen as "name dropping" though?

i mean, so i was really young when proper emo was at it's height or whatever.

but that suddenly means if i like these bands, im just name dropping?

surely then, anyone's fucking music taste can be name-dropping.

It's only name dropping when you try and pretend you didn't get into those bands through the current bands that are being labeled as 'emo'. Which in your case is what happened. You didn't stumble across a Minor Threat or blah blah CD randomly in a record shop, you saw them mentioned by another band or had someone you know that knew you were getting into that sort of music mention them to you. Funnily that's how most people get into different bands. There's no shame to it.

The only shame in this case is being judgmental towards what got you started in the first place.

well yeah, and i'm pretty much still into all that music that i was.

its just now i like more stuff too.

i dont see why im "name dropping" though if i genuinely like the bands?
