Recommended Posts

SAT 5 MAY - FUDGE PRESENT - THE MOORINGS BAR - 8pm - 3

Panda Eyes (www.myspace.com/itsmoreofaflan)

Formed in the summer of 2006, Panda Eyes are a 5 piece indie pop combo based in the city of Aberdeen. Jan Deal, formerly of rock band Port of Saints and indie electro band Stroszek, met Glaswegian exile Marie-Claire Jones, and the two decided to form a band. They were recently voted the Best Band in Aberdeen at The Fudge Music Awards 2007 by you, The General Public, and theyre influenced by Mazzy Star, Rilo Kiley, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and The Breeders.

City (Glasgow - www.myspace.com/cityrock)

Glaswegian five-piece playing high-quality contemporary indie rock. Think something along the lines of The Killers and you wont be far off. Their Myspaz page lacks a biography, so thats all we can say for certain - but check out the tunes on their site, add them, and say Hi.

No Pasaran (www.myspace.com/nopasaran1)

Formed from the ashes of lost hopes and broken dreams by a collection of overeducated and underemployed misanthropes and malcontents, No Pasaran just want to be remembered for the right reasons. Musically, its the noise of, dreams ending and walls falling

Their influences varied and include sweet soul music, Calexico, REM, The Fall, King Crimson, Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Micah P Hinson, Joanna Newsom, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Echo & the Bunnymen, Wilco, Whiskeytown, Gram Parsons/Burrito Brothers/Byrds, Violent Femmes, Emmylou Harris, The Band, Hank Williams, Camera Obscura, Tom Waits, Nick Drake, King Creosote, Arab Strap/Malcolm Middleton, Lorca and the Spanish Civil War.

SAT 12 MAY - MIGHTY DUCK PRESENT - THE MOORINGS BAR - 8pm - tbc

Second:thought (www.myspace.com/coveryourmouth)

Screamo, I believe. Cant find a website though.

Red Mongoose (www.myspace.com/redmongooseband)It's early days but I for one (Simon; Lead Vocals and guitar) think our sound can be linked back to the following: Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who, Deep Purple, Free, Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Cream and Jimi Hendrix (though I'm sure other comparisons could be made).

The Piano Conspiracy Theory (www.myspace.com/thepianoconspiracytheory)

Influence-wise, were talking, Sharks Keep Moving, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, Boards Of Canada, Modest Mouse, Beck, Bright Eyes, Sigur Ros, Xiu Xiu, Nine Inch Nails and uh....any other sounds that are out there right now.

SAT 19 MAY - FUDGE PRESENT - THE MOORINGS BAR - 8pm - 3

Project Reno (Perth/Dundee - www.myspace.com/projectrenorock)

There are only two types of music - good music and bad music. They like the good stuff. 'Project Reno' is the brainchild of four individuals with very different musical backgrounds, and features members of Speyside, Boomhauer, Tenesee Kait and Kessell Run. All Fans of each others music, they decided it could be fun to jam and see what might evolve. Mixing blues, acoustic rock, metal and the urge to always have the melodic vocal sitting at the top, 'Project Reno' was born. Now theyre ready to step up a gear and rock into has many eardrums as possible.

My Testament Denied (www.myspace.com/mytestamentdenied)

Metal and hardcore influenced, making their debut at The Moorings. Its heavy stuff.

Whitefire (NE England - www.myspace.com/whitefirerockyourmyspace)

Five rock kids land in our glorious pirate bar to spread their rocknroll message of hope, love and the rock-guitar solo. I expect these guys will be ace live, trading on the classic rock heritage of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Free, Whitesnake, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi and countless other legends.

HalfJack (www.myspace.com/halfj)

HalfJack rose from the discarded remnants of pops childish sensibility, classic rocks flamboyant pomposity, metals aggressive insensitivity and funks all encompassing sexuality. Ranging from wherever Nick happens to be from, to the a small town inhabited by Charlie somewhere outside Newcastle, to an even smaller town near Edinburgh frequented by Diarmaid, and what some would call the City of Edinburgh where David found his home, these four men came together to create the unadulterated sound of unrestrained rocknroll.

FRI 25 MAY - XTASTER/ROCKSOUND PRESENT - THE MOORINGS BAR

Club promotion for GODS OF BLITZ. Energetic garage-rockers with a polished indie-pop edge, German four-piece Gods Of Blitz keep their sound short, sharp, sweet and sweaty - squeezing 13 songs into 38 minutes. During that time, they cut a punchy swathe between the Hives precision and panache and early Strokes guitar interplay and inherent hipness - which is not surprising, seeing as this debut was co-produced by Gordon Raphael and mixed by Michael Ilbert who have worked with both of these bands.

7th May New Wave Wipe-Out (single release)

21st May Reporting a Mirage (album release)

SAT 26 MAY - FUDGE PRESENT - THE MOORINGS BAR - 8pm - 3

The Hijacks (www.myspace.com/hijackska)

Members of The Upstarts and Contra bring skanking punk our way in their new super group. These guys will almost certainly kick arse as they warm up for a Scottish tour in June, so get ready to feel their saxy grooving.

GoodSirSmith (Edinburgh - www.myspace.com/goodsirsmith)

Pop-grunge-rockers influenced by, the music we hear, the television we see, the people we meet, the world around us all. Sound like Foo Fighters, Green Day, Kerbdog, Deftones, Rival Schools, Jimmy Eat World, Hundred Reasons, Muse, Wildhearts, Busted, Head Automatica, Son of Dork, Therapy?, Wilt

The band was put together by Pete Harper (We Become Less, Red By Choice), and features Jimmy (We Become Less, Radio Lucifer) and Mart (We Become Less, Deadloss Superstar). The trio will be playing their first ever gig. Eek!

Crimson Tide (Sutherland - www.myspace.com/crimsontideuk)

A four-piece rock band from the North of Scotland. Their style has been described as, switching between soft-gentle acoustics, to brutal, just under control distortion, with haunting vocals. Together since early 2004, Crimson Tide have performed in venues throughout Scotland while developing more material and further finding their style. The band in general takes inspiration from Rage Against The Machine, Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters, Trivium, Mudvayne, InMe, Muse, Taproot, Nickleback, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Perfect Circle, etc.

The Condiments (www.myspace.com/therealcondiments) TBC

Thomas, Mike, Donald and Alex. A musical quartet if you will. Between us we play drums, bass, guitar, vocals, keyboard, trumpet, cello and triangle. That's eight. Our influences range from Waterloo to Anywhere. The band originate from Scotland, England and the Netherlands and started as a nameless trio back in 2005.

P.S. Mike has fulfilled the position of drummer...he is orgasmic.
