offramp
interesting music promotions present:SAINT JUDES INFIRMARY + THOMAS TRUAX + PAUL VICKERS AND THE LEGThe Tunnels Room 2, Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF (01224) 211121Saturday 19th May / Doors 8pm / Entry 6http://www.thetunnels.co.ukhttp://www.myspace.com/interestingmusicIn May, SL Records celebrates its tenth birthday. To mark the occasion they are putting on four gigs across Scotland and were delighted to present one of them.http://www.myspace.com/slrecordsSAINT JUDES INFIRMARYThey are from Edinburgh Scotland and play slow and brutal poetry. The songs are of sad eyed remorse sung by throats cried hoarse. The girls sing sweet, the boys sing coarse, the girls weave honey, the boys pick sores. This band of malcontents and misfits from Fife caused a storm with their debut album "Happy Healthy Lucky Month" which was out on SL Records early last year. 10 years in the making, this album was written on their travels from Fife to Edinburgh, via Holland and the Southern States. They're currently putting the finishing touches to the follow up, which will feature fellow Fifers writer Ian Rankin and painter Jack Vetrianno. http://www.myspace.com/saintjudesinfirmaryTHOMAS TRUAXThere's a fine line between the unique and the insane, and it's a line which Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) straddles with his chin held high and 'The Hornicator ' firmly glued to his left ear. His collection of home made instruments look as though plucked straight from the mind of Tim Burton and are combined with loop pedals, guitars and lashings of imagination to create one of the most unusual and entertaining live shows you will ever see. This tour will feature the newest self-made mechanical instrument Mary Poppins. 2007 saw Thomas sign with SL Records and Why Dogs Howl At The Moon is out 21st May"Inventive and Romantic" (Time Out) "Genius" (NME)"Thomas Truax is a feisty sonic dreamer gadgeteer, songwriter and performer...capable of crafting some very potent songs... poetically evocative and rich with melancholy, both by dint of sounds and the texts." (Uncut)http://www.thomastruax.comhttp://www.myspace.com/thomastrauxPAUL VICKERS AND THE LEGFor the past ten years Paul has fronted, and is the genius behind, wonk rock purveyors Dawn of the Replicants. Taking a sabbatical from the band he teamed up with Edinburgh experimental popists The Leg (formerly Desc) for a performance to celebrate Edinburgh College of Arts Bicentenary. This fortuitous meeting of minds has lead to further collaboration, and they are now working on an album together, due out early in 2008. These shows will be their first live outing."Much of the magic stems from front man Paul Vickers, a loveable gonk / da vinci of lyrical invention" (Mojo Magazine)"Paul Vickers unique vocal hovers delightfully, occupying a self-effacing space somewhere between the sound of Nick Cave and Billy Corgan" (Record Collector)"Sonic alchemists with pop magic dancing from their fingertips" (NME)http://www.myspace.com/paulvickersandtheleg

Shaki
Truax is a must if you haven't seen him before. Interesting music indeed
kirkt
I found St Jude's a bit boring at the Versacoustic gig. Truax is always worth going to see though. What will that crazy troubadour do next?Dawn of the Replicants! They were one of the bands I got into when I was 12. I love their Diesel Hands EP and that song they did about Radars (possibly called Radars). I hope to attend this shindig.

chilli
Sadly, owing to problems outwith our control St Judes Infirmary will not be part of their labels 10th Anniversary tour tonight. A replacement SL Records artist will play instead..........We are naturally very disappointed, by this, but still believe our two headliners will be mighty compensation for any shortfall on the news above. As is usual with Interesting Music events the above line-up still offers fantastic value for the quality of music & entertainment that will be on offer tonight.imp
