New in town - music help?

Hi all -

I don't know if this is even the proper forum for this, but I just got here a week ago and still haven't really found what I'm looking for music-wise in Aberdeen. I'm looking for open mic nights (so far I know about the one at the Union, so I'm going to try to play there tomorrow night), indie, and folk stuff. I love to sing, and I can get by on quite a few instruments. If anyone has advice for a newbie, let me know!

What I know of, so far... If this is updated or added to, I'll turn it into an article.

Sunday

The Moorings, Shiprow.

Rock Jam, more of an open stage, than open mic -mostly rock/metal guitar bands, but it is a highly open-minded place, very relaxed and open to anything. Look a bit scary at first, but is very friendly. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/music-discussion/37025-open-mike.html#post533477

The Globe, North Silver Street

Jam/ Open Mic night, easy going, quite traditional.

Ma Cameron's, Little Belmont Street

Open Mic Night, every second week.

Tuesday

The Globe, North Silver Street

Traditional Scottish Folk Session, very traditional and acoustic in nature, quite serious and technical sometimes, but fun once the drink is flowing.

The Office, Crown Street

Open Mic night - http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/office-boardroom/40866-open-mic-night-every-tuesday.html

The Tunnels, Carnegies Brae

Tunnel 2 Open Mic night, usually Stewcat, now Matthew for some reason - http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/gigs-events/41140-open-mic-tunnels-tonight.html

Wednesday

Cafe Drummond, Belmont Street

Open Mic night, follows the quiz, mostly acoustic.

Thursday

Cellar 35, 35 Rosemount Viaduct

Open Mic night, small venue but with full band set up.

Nah, all the crowds at open mic nights i've been to were very nice and welcoming. Cellar 35 is a good place to start, it's a smaller venue, so there's less people.

Absolutely, always very encouraging for newbies.

Is Cellar 35 on a Thursday? I need to add that one to my list. Is that the one Sandy Nairn etc are usually at?
