jester1470
When I was first getting into music in the late 80's one of the first albums I latched onto was Jeff Wayne's Musical Adaptation of War of the Worlds, a great concept piece with guest stars like Phil Lynott, Justin Hayward etc For Christmas I got the DVD of the touring version which they toured for the first time last year and was blown away, an orchestra, 4 keyboard players, a 30 foot martian with lasers, explosions, huge computer graphics montages, guest singers (many of the original cast and Russel Watson doing a surprisingly good Lynott), and all in Victorian period dress, a real throwback to the excesses of the 70's. Anyway its just been announced he's brining it to the AECC in December, well worth a visit if you like a spectacle. CheersStuart

pogofish
The Plan Nine From Outer Space of rock operas. Back in the day, admitting you had a liking for this or worse still, actually owning a copy was as good as signing your own death warrant. Some things are better left back then. What next, the resurgance of full-on Wakeman & the Alan Parsons Project? Shudder!

Back in the day, admitting you had a liking for this or worse still, actually owning a copy was as good as signing your own death warrant.this reminded me of Ben Weapon when Dunlop Green Flash trainers came back into cool kids fashion, saying "if you wore them to school in my day, you'd have got the shit kicked out of you!" /x
Guest DustyDeviada
On sale today.War of the Worlds Coming to AECC Following a hugely successful and critically acclaimed sell-out UK tour in 2006, Live Nation has today confirmed that the award-winning Jeff Waynes Musical Version of The War of The Worlds is set to head back to the live arena in December 2007 for a brand new tour. The show will be visiting 11 cities across the UK, kicking off in Aberdeen at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) on Tuesday, 4 December. UK fans and media alike were astounded by the groundbreaking technology featured in the 2006 production, and the 2007 tour will be bigger and better! Jeff returns to conduct The Black Smoke Band and the 46 piece ULLAdubULLA (PRONOUNCED AS ONE WORD: OOLAdubOOLA) Strings. Moody Blues lead vocalist Justin Hayward returns to reprise once more his role as The Sung Thoughts of the Journalist. Also featuring alongside are special guests Alexis James, Chris Thompson and Sinad Quinn, plus featuring again the theatrical wonder of Richard Burton as George Herbert, The Journalist. For the 2007 tour, the production will be boasting exciting new features including new innovative technology by Californian company EON Reality who will create a new Richard Burton head with 3D CGI photo-real holographic imagery aiming to take the replication even further than last years tour and to set the bar for all theatrical technology in the future. The story is also set to be unveiled in a new way for audiences in 2007. Journalist (Richard Burton) will be able to interact with the real-time cast on stage more authentically, and other new extraordinary live effects will also come into play this year! Since the albums original release in June of 1978, Jeff Waynes Musical Version of The War of The Worlds has grown into a true classic; garnering a new generation of devoted followers whilst still inspiring the faithful listeners from the past decades. Inspired by the HG Wells novel, the album features a compelling blend of prog rock and classical and literary influences, coupled with a spell-binding narration from Richard Burton and outstanding performances by some of the biggest artists of the 70s, including David Essex, Justin Hayward, Phil Lynott and Julie Covington. The album has enjoyed huge success and critical acclaim across the globe with almost 15 million records currently sold and numerous accolades acquired. The War of The Worlds initially spent over 260 consecutive weeks in the UK albums charts alone and has reappeared consistently through the years, passing in 2006 over 300 weeks in the UK album charts alone. Jeff Waynes Musical Version of The War of The Worlds Live on Stage! DVD, shot at Wembley Arena on 25 April 2006, released through Universal and directed by award-winning Director David Mallett, has been in the Top 10 UK DVD charts since its release in early November 2006 including an amazing 5 weeks at the Number One spot.
