Neil
Should aberdeen-music start hosting Journal's for all our registered users? I say Journals, because although these are exactly the same thing as Blogs I'm trying to differentiate between them in order to encourage people to use them a little differently. For example, I'd like to see them used by people in local bands to document things like tour diaries or regular gig go-ers to document their gig experiences, rather than use their Journal to just document personal events (but there is nothing wrong with this if they end up getting used in this way).If you would like to see an example of how these Journals would be integrated with aberdeen-music then please check out the web site below:Journals - AbsolutePunk.netOne could argue there is now a multitude of different places (e.g. MySpace, blogger.com) where anyone can have their own Blog hosted, and so maybe hosting Blogs here as well would be overkill. I can't decide myself - so please vote and let me know what you all think!

Let's leave Ab-Music for people syaing each others bands are shite.

TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
I think this sounds like it would be an interesting idea.
Old Gold
I think there are other things that would benefit bands more than just talking about themselves, such as song hosting maybe. Also, there's loads of free blogspace on the internet already: Livejournal, blogspot, myspace etc. Some can even be updated from mobile phones. Maybe a simple list of band blogs somewhere on the site would be less time consuming? It also means that Aberdeen-Music aren't responsible for anything written in them. The Kernel Loaf
I think this could be a good idea, and it would give bands a chance to talk about themselves and their performances in more depth. There's certainly no harm in giving it a try.Things like that are usually discussed in threads promoting the gig/giving feedback afterwards, so at least it would be relevant and in one place rather than 3/4 acts making similar journals about the same night. Neil
It also means that Aberdeen-Music aren't responsible for anything written in them. The web site wouldn't be responsible for anything written in them anyway - just like we aren't responsible for the contents of posts (see the disclaimer in the FAQ for more info). A.Pel
Links to blogs maybe, but I don't think they should actually be on the site.
Rachie
I dunno, I think there's enough angst brought out as it is. Like others have said: people already have myspace, bebo, lj, blogspot, every medium under the sun to blog with. Don't think it's really needed? Would people be allowed to freely post that sort of stuff on a blog if they felt inclined?
Neil
There's still stuff like links to porno and violence that get deleted from posts. Would people be allowed to freely post that sort of stuff on a blog if they felt inclined? That's a very good question. One could argue that because entries to a user's blog/journal is completely under their control then they should be allowed to post what they like (think of it like a user being the sole moderator of their own forum - because that's kinda how the journals would work technically speaking). However, this would then undermine the established site rules that everyone else has to follow when making posts in any of the forums. What if someone posts a link in a forum to their blog entry that has offensive content linked to within it? I'd need to think that one over more, to be honest. Good point though - I hadn't considered it until now.

Neil
sweems like an unnecessary addition that will surely just add costs to an underfunded website. It would cost nothing to implement (like most features on the site) and the web site is currently running fully funded (and has been for many months) thanks to our kind sponsors, supporting members and advertisers. What would swing the idea to the high heavens for me would be the ability to quote from journals, such as:"we (crap band) played a trully rokkin set the night drummonds luvved it 110% the big biscuit", me: no ye didnae it was pish. this blogs gash..... Bodast
There's nothing to lose in trying it for a bit. Anyway, if people don't want to read them, they don't have to. And although you said it would be okay to be more personal 'journals', if people are more into that type, they're likely to put them on myspace or whatever they use rather than here so it should stay closer to music-based here. Camie
I like it, if people recognise it as a useful source of knowledge in the music business then it would be a great resource.Ok there will be certain people who will criticise it...but what's new there? Neil
Well, it looks like I wasn't the only one who couldn't decide if this was a good idea or not. The vote is split, so I've decided I'll give this a whirl. There is nothing to lose so if this doesn't work out I'll simply remove the Blog feature.Stay tuned...
