Ah, the good old "one law for the toffs"...

BOXING CHAMP HAMED STRIPPED OF MBE

Boxer Naseem Hamed has lost another title - after his MBE was withdrawn.

He received a letter telling him the honour presented to him by the Queen in 1999 has been revoked because of his jail sentence for dangerous driving.

It comes four months after the former world featherweight champion left prison having served just 16 weeks of a 15-month sentence.

He was jailed after crashing his £320,000 sportscar while overtaking at 90mph in Sheffield.

He broke every major bone in decorator Anthony Burgin's body when he hit his car in May 2005.

The fighter was not available for comment.

But his former trainer, Brendan Ingle, himself the holder of the MBE, said it would be "a real slap in the face" to Hamed.

He added: "He was really proud of that MBE and used to get it out to show everyone."

He joins a list of famous figures including jockey Lester Piggott and darts champion Phil Taylor to have honours withdrawn after falling foul of the law.

However, Tory Lord Archer was allowed to keep his honour after his jail sentence for perjury because a different committee dealt with peerages.

...no surprises there then, eh?
