Play the Pogues & Kirsty Macoll (?) one on repeat with the one that goes "rapapumpum" on every tenth song to break the monotony. Joni Mitchell's "River" is a nice een that's a bit Chistmassy. Go with the sad numbers! Also The Vandals have a song about a post-op tranny's first Christmas as a woman which is amusing if nothing else. I've got it on a compilation somewhere.

Springsteen's "Santa Claus is coming to town" is one of the only songs he's done that I will accept criticism of (outwith "Human Touch"). Tom Petty has a self-composed Christmas song which is gash too. Also it was the beginning of the end for the Darkness (you could throw that one in?). Christmas songs are by and large shit.

The Waitresses - "Christmas Wrapping".

Superb - that discordant Valley Girl rap/rant is infectious

Did you know that Mew song is in fact apparently about incest. The earlier version has the line "Don't touch her there, when he fucked her". Very strange, although the Frengers version doesn't really have any hint of incest and is also ace, so good choice.

Aye, i've heard the version from 'A Triumph For Man'. Both versions are cracking tunes.

For modern ones I'll suggest:

Christmas in Washington - Steve Earle

The Ragpicker's Dream - Mark Knopfler

As for all time classics in addition to The Pogues/McColl and Christmas Wrapping, you can't beat Mike Oldfield's In Dulcio Jubilo, I Believe in father Christmas by Greg Lake (mainly the Prokofiev bit at the end) and Keeping the Dream Alive by Freiheit, which isn't really a Cristmas song but seems to end up on all the Christmas CDs anyway, and in any case everyone thinks it's ELO.
