Chris
I'm not even going to read it. I just wanted to agree on the fact that he is indeed a cunt. A repugnant one.well allow me to post the first 2 paragraphs of utter fucking nonsense for you:Copyright is fundamentally socialist - it is radical and redistributive, subversive even. How else would you describe a form of property that anyone can create out of nothing? Copyright's democratising effect is seen most clearly in the music business. Anyone who can speak, sing, rap or hum and operate a simple sound recorder can create a copyright song. Imagination is the only limit.Copyright promotes artistic creativity and the free circulation of ideas. More than 20 years ago, musicians seized the opportunity for collaboration offered by new technology in the form of digital samples. Far from obstructing this exchange of inspiration, copyright facilitates sampling, and translates the creative debt into income for the creator of the borrowed work. Musical sampling is the perfect example of copyright's flexibility in fusing the ever-changing worlds of art, commerce and technology. Guest bluesxman
Who the fuck wants to 'borrow' anything from Simply Red's music now, let alone in 70 years? He rates very highly on my hate-o-meter, on a par with Collins actually.

SteveCrisis
The man's head is up his arse. At least that's one way of disguising his gingerness. And the guy that posted this:Did you hear that Mick Hucknall has been charged with bestiality with a rabbit? He was caught holding back the ears and the bunny was too tight to mention.Maybe I'm too easily amused but fuck me that is hilarious

Shaki
Now Shaki, I think you're going to find a lot of repugnant cunts taking major offense to being likened to Mick Hucknall.Too true, I'm a sucker for self-abuse. I apologise to my fellow repugnant cunts. He's off the scale Bluesxman's story reminded me of a girlfriend I had that liked simply red. Her favourite song went "You're beautiful, but oh so boring". If you could pick a song to be "your song" she hit the nail on the head. I'm going to kill myself now for remembering that song.....and that ex.....and Mick Hucknall. OH GOD REMEMBER "FAIRGROUND". He rates very highly on my hate-o-meter, on a par with Collins actually.Ooh, interesting topic, who's worse, Hucknall or Collins?I must admit that Something Got Me Started is a guilty pleasure (sorry! I like the piano bit), but there's no doubt that Hucknall's a twat. At least he's old now and I don't have to see pictures of him all over the papers with stunning models. Git.Also, when he sings "Ding Dong Merrilly on High" on Knowing Me, Knowing Yule with Alan Partridge he mis-pronounces some of the words which is unforgivable in my opion. And Stars must be the least deserving of all the records featured on the normall excellent "Classic Album" series of documentaries. If you could pick a song to be "your song" she hit the nail on the head. What is it with certain females and Simply fucking Red? An ex of mine from a few years ago liked that one too. I thought it was the most turgid piece of keech ever to be performed. I didn't realise that taste-erectomies could be done on the NHS...I'm going to kill myself now for remembering that song.....and that ex.....and Mick Hucknall. Don't do it Shaki! Hucknall isn't worth it. You've got a gig tonight and I' hoping to see you guys at Drummonds in December!
SteveCrisis
Ooh, interesting topic, who's worse, Hucknall or Collins?Much of a muchness I reckon.Although one's a ginger twat and the other's bald; comparitively speaking , they are both sanctimonious cunts. Can anyone answer this:Why does Mick Mick Hucknall induce such liberal use of the 'C Word', you know, cunt? framheim
aside from the fact that mick hucknall is generally a cunt, surely he raises some good points in that essay. with people generally living longer shouldn't artists be allowed to hold onto copyright longer than 50 years in this day and age? it is after all a product of their work and imagination and they should be rewarded for their hard work. that's the crux of his argument. i don't understand why people felt the need on the guardian page to bring up downloading of songs as that's not mentioned in the article and is surely another debate entirely as no amount of copyright legislation will prevent it. a balance needs to be struck between protecting an artists work and that of digital artist who uses samples and the like. i'd imagine chris' main problem with the whole article is mick hucknalls attempt to portray himself as some kind of musical socialist. apart from the fact that hucknall is stinking rich i'm pretty sure he's always been a staunch labour man even before new labour and so i don't see the argument there either. guess i'll probably get hacked to pieces for sticking up for the talentless oaf. Chris
shouldn't artists be allowed to hold onto copyright longer than 50 years in this day and age?Artists hold onto the copyright for their life plus 70 years. The mechanical copyright (the recording itself) is 50 years. This is usually held by the record company.

Chris
I'll post why I think it's nonsense later on once I get home from work. Needless to say the fact that a filthy rich musician espousing something that mainly exists to make record companies obscene amounts of money as a socialist system, is one of the more ludicrous statements he made.
