goatboy
If you're there long enough, you could try catching Aberdeen band APB! Some New York dates in December listed on their MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/apbtheband

Alan Cynic
I used to just buy Time Out for the flight over, but you could check out the websites for some of the venues.
Jesus.H.Christ
I had the same problem. I went in the summer and wanted to go to a gig but the only ones I could find were We Are Scientists (who I already had tickets to see in Aberdeen) and Echo and the Bunnymen (didn't want to see them). Alan Cynic
I would suggest checking these venues' websites.....Knitting FactoryJoe's PubGalapagosArlene's GroceryMercury LoungeTonicCake ShopSidewalk CafeLakeside Lounge(but there are tons more...it's NYC!)they've always had something decent on - maybe not the biggest names, but there'll be something worth seeing, usually. I just checked the Knitting Factory, for a fortnight's time, and they had Gary Lucas (ex Beefheart/Jeff Buckley) who has played 2 great gigs at the Tunnels, plus 2 nights of Mudhoney, so it would be a great week for me!!! (plus the week after they've got Pere Ubu!!!!)
Alvin Starclusk
To quote possibly the most annoying, boring woman we met in New York "this is your bible" (repeat ad nauseum). She was right though.Pick yourself up a paper copy when you get there as well, and you will be well sorted.
Alvin Starclusk
If only you'd been there today, you'd have been able to go and see Urethra Franklin.

Guest DustyDeviada
If you're a guitar fan check out the legend that is Les Paul, every Monday at The Iridium on Broadway. He's in his 90s now so you may not get another chance.
