Graham
i have a marshall avt100. i don't mind the clean sound on it but hate the overdrive channels. i'm looking for a distortion pedal that would give me a more powerful sound. i have a couple of boss distortions (ds1 and a mega distortion)but they seem pretty weedy and thin sounding when the amps turned up loud. was thinking of one of those hughes & kettner warp distortion pedals. would it give me the sound i'm looking for or is there any other pedals anyone recommends? or would i just be better selling my marshall and getting a new amp? RossP
Definitely the H&K Warp pedal. It is has an absolutely incredible distortion sound.

Graham
Why did you buy the AVT100 if you hate the overdrive and think the clean is only ok?because i got it when i was 17 and i was only ever playing it at bedroom level (which it sounds ok at). when i play it at higher levels it doesn't give the sound i'm looking for. HateEvent
What is the sound you're looking for?The only distortion pedal I have ever owned is the Warp Factor. Just has so much bottom end and sounds like it should be there rather than some other pedals I've tried which sound as if they are on top and don't fit. (That last bit probably makes no sense to anyone except myself but I know what I mean - I'm basically recommending the H&K!).
Jeid
You ask if the pedal will do the sound you want... how the hell are we supposed to know? Try one out for yourself.I'd sell the amp and get something a bit better if i were you
Guest Gregor Ascension
boss ds1 is terrible imo. i used to have one, hated it. i have no idea why steve vai and joe satriani still use it. if your going for a metal sound, ive heard nothing but great things about the krank distortus maximus. Old Gold
You think the Boss Mega Distortion is weedy?? I'm not sure what your standards of distortion are, but it looks like you definately need a different amplifier.
Graham
sorry, i didn't really phrase my question very well. what i guess i'm trying to ask is is there a distortion pedal that can give me a sound as good as an amps distortion? or would it be best if i sold my amp and got a new one? the reason i mentioned the warp pedal was because i heard it gave a stack like distortion and i liked the description of it. i've not been able to try one as i haven't seen one in any shops for a while. stuartmaxwell
wel grahamits your lucky day.i have a warp for sale (with the 12v adapter) for a paltry sum of 45 poundsbut tbh i think you need a valve amp. althoguh the avt has a nice clean channel, it sounds crap on distortion and doesnt have any kind of power when you push distortion through it. I'm not sure what your standards of distortion are, but it looks like you definately need a different amplifier.+1 You'll probably get much the same sound from the AVT regardless of what pedals you put into it. I doubt whether you'll have enough clean headroom to project the extreme low end of pedals like the Warp. What is your idea of a powerful sound? Is it one with more gain/bottom end or one with more attack, punch and mid? (which is my preference)
