Guest Donald
Thought some of you might be interested in this film which we're showing on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (15)Bona fide anthropologist and unrepentant metal-head Sam Dunn is your tour guide for this history of the heavy stuff, a film that succeeds as both an insightful exercise in cultural studies and an exhilarating tribute to rock's dark side. Dunn draws on interviews with the genre's godheads like Tony Iommi and Alice Cooper and contemporary extremists, such as some hilariously evil Norwegian black metallers. He walks the line between obstreperous and scholarly, dissecting the various schools that evolved after Ozzy Osbourne's Black Sabbath and others stole the "heavy-metal thunder" (in the famous phrase from "Born to Be Wild") from Woodstock-era acts like Jimi Hendrix and Cream. The end result emphasises the dark and the loud, often at the expense of all other subtleties and subtexts.Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (15)Showing:Saturday: 16:15Sunday : 21:00Monday : 21:00For further information phone the Belmont on 01224343536This is part of a season of films about music.
