Jamie
Toots and the Maytals: Show Rescheduled from 2nd - note earlier timings Sunday 11 June 2006 - Café Tickets £21 (£14 concessions & regulars) Doors Open: 7.30pmShow Starts: 8pmPLEASE NOTE - NO SUPPORT ANYMORE - TOOTS ONSTAGE AT 8PMToots Hibbert is one of the true architects of reggae - so much so that Do the Reggay, a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae's greatest breakthrough event - the 1972 film, The Harder They Come. The all-star guestlist on his last album, True Love, is testament to his huge influence, ranging from legends like Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson and Bootsy Collins to younger stars including Ryan Adams, No Doubt, the Roots, and Shaggy while reggae icons U-Roy, Bunny Wailer and Marcia Griffiths show the respect granted to the man who might be the music's greatest living vocalist. At the heart of it all is that voice - drenched in soul, rooted in gospel, and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight. True Love mines Toots' diamond-studded back catalogue and includes new versions of many of the band's fnest moments including Pressure Drop, Funky Kingston, Monkey Man, Sweet And Dandy, 54-46 (That's My Number), Bam Bam and Reggae Got Soul. We are proud to welcome back this Jamaican music legend and hope you will join us for what will be another unforgettable show, after an incredible performance here two years ago.www.tootsandthemaytals.com This show was originally scheduled for the 2nd of June, but has been put back to allow Toots more time to recover from a minor operation. Original tickets are still valid for the new date, or can be refunded via our Box Office. Please note earlier timings.
