misterdale
Roddy Woomble and friendsTuesday 25th July - The Lemon TreeTickets 15 (10 concessions & Regulars)Doors Open: 7.30pmShow Starts: 8pmBorn in 1976 in the west of Scotland, Roddy travelled extensively through his childhood, living in France and the United States before settling in Edinburgh to study photography, where he met his Idlewild band mates. After stints in both London and New York City, Roddy now lives in Glasgow.Idlewild are well known for their musical journey and evolvement, from the loud abrasive punk rock of their early records to the country and folk leanings of their last offering - 2005's 'Warnings/Promises' (which saw them headline the second stage at the Cambridge Folk Festival). Always very vocal about his love of traditional Scottish folk music as well as groups such as Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band, Roddy has decided to take time out from Idlewild to collaborate on an album's worth of songs that take these influences and mix them with Idlewild's trademark soaring melodies and thoughtful lyrics.Lemon Tree website

Marsh
ARGHI wouldn't go to this gig anyway' date=' but why the fuck are Lemon Tree tickets so expensive? It is absolute bollocks.[/quote']So expensive compared to what? Tickets are £15 for most of, if not all the venues on this tour, so I wouldn't blame the Lemon Tree. In fact, concessions can see this gig for a whole three pounds less than those concessions unfortunate enough to have to see him in Edinburgh. They will also have to fork out a whole one pound and fifty pence for their booking fee in Edinburgh, which the Lemon Tree don't charge. It's probably as good a venue as any on this tour as well - you're guaranteed a good view and the Lemon Tree has a great sound system, so why are you just fucking moaning about it? You said you wouldn't go to this gig anyway. So if you're moaning in general about the Lemon Tree I will say: I've been very critical of the Lemon Tree in recent months - Not enough good bands coming here, too many tribute acts etc etc. but I think £15 is a fair price for an intimite gig with a singer of a fairly successful and well known Scottish band. I used to moan about the price of gigs. Then I realised it was 2006 and not 1996 any more. It's called inflation. Folk have to realise that the price of gigs are going up in established venues. Simple as. We are spoiled here having gigs as cheap as we get in Moshulu and The Tunnels.Folk moaning about things for no reason is "absolute bollocks." You sound like a student who grudges paying full price for anything!

Marsh
Utter pish.o_OWhy? If you get there early enough you'll get right to the front and will be less than two metres from whoever is performing.I've never had a problem with the layout- I usually stand at the back and see over everyone on the floor. But there's no pleasing some folk........... framheim
Why? If you get there early enough you'll get right to the front and will be less than two metres from whoever is performing.I've never had a problem with the layout- I usually stand at the back and see over everyone on the floor. But there's no pleasing some folk...........how do you equate having to get there early so you get a view with guaranteed to get a good view? you could say that about any venue using your argument. of course if you get there first you'll get a good view! not so if you're stuck behind the pillars though.edit: i'd also like to add i think the title of this thread is possibly the greatest title of the year so far.
