Dance Music

EDIT: and i havent even gotten into the darker/alternative stuff like Aphex Twin or Squarepusher. though the latter might even fall into "rave" which i think can also be considered as a sub-genre of dance...

Squarepusher? Rave?

Tom Jenkinson (AKA the pusher of squares) did have a techno side-project under the name Chaos A.D. , but apart from that, Squarepusher isn't rave at all.

I've found very few aberdeen dance acts that I like... but I admit that I haven't really dug deep into it.

I quite like some dance music.... but I hate trance and hard house... that stuff is just brain numbing.

I also hate all that ministry of sound stuff that gets churned out' date=' just not my cup of tea at all.[/quote']

you are possibly just hearing the wrong stuff (daytime radio pish), but theres a quite a bit Im sure you would dig. Its a wide genre thats still developing, and theres some good electro based stuff. I shall attempt to infiltrate your head with some soon!

Still' date=' it's no Manumission or Pacha![/quote']

I dont think it tries to be to be fair. More like a small backsteet one in NYC or in Europe, like the ones that dont have a sign and you have to knock on a door (hoping its the right place) as there no doormen. Sofas, small dancefloor, good bar selection and relentless good sounds, low wanker quota and all the focus on the music.

Aye I know theres doormen at Snafu but that simply cos we live in a shithole full of Neds.

Fair call. That's also why I love Estaminet. It's always quiet and chilled out but they have ace DJs on every night.

Betamax is absolutely right. We're in no way trying to be anything like Manumission or Pacha. There may be some crossover with regards to special guests, but the concept behind Snafu is completely different. I think we're more along the lines of Cielo in New York.

We're not to everyone's taste, but if the definition of everyone is people who frequent large, commercial discos and dance to the current Top 40 or wedding classics, then we're doing our job.

As for Estaminet, it's a shame what's happened to that place. Neglect and a lack of standards has ruined a great destination for both food and socialising. I hope they get the place sorted out and back to what it used to be. The music's still as good as it used to be, but the place is just grubby. Still remember that time my Cream of Leek and <something> Linguini was drowning in milk. That was the last time I ate there.

Hard Normal Daddy was VERY rave-y.
