Guys. I need a little advice about whether to get an amp head or a combo for my bass guitar. I'm new to this game, having been a drummer all my life, so you'll have to excuse any dumb questions.

At the moment, I'm just rehearsing every weak with the band. We decided that the drummer has to set the volume level, cos he can't turn down. So we all try to set our guitar levels at about his volume. I've tried a 100w Ashdown amp and a Laney 130w. Apart from nearly breaking my back lugging them around, they just don't compete with the whole band for volume. I'm thinking of getting a Behringer Ultrabass BX4500 head and plugging that into the studio PA, which is powered by a 900w amp. Is that gonna work, dya think?

There's no way you can feed the output of the bass amp through the PA amp.

You could plug your bass through a mixer into the PA amp, but I'd spend the money you'll probably have to shell out to replace the speakers on a decent amp.

If you can hear it, you'll be fine in most venues, cos the bass will be DI'ed into the mixing desk.
