Just received this in an e-mail:

VERY IMPORTANT WARNING !!!!!!

Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as

Yahoo,

Hotmail, and AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning from

Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who accesses

the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power

Point presentation "Life is beautiful. pps". If you receive it DO NOT OPEN

THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. I f you open

this file, a message will appear on&n bsp;your screen saying: "It is too late

now, your life is no longer beautiful", subsequently you will LOSE

EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you gains access to

your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus ! Which started to

circulate on Saturday afternoon WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO STOP

THIS VIRUS. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus

Software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by

a hacker who calls himself "life owner". PLEASE&nbs p;MAKE A COPY OF THIS EMAIL

TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and PASS IT ON

These emails are themselves viruses, by causing panic and clogging up inboxes. That's why people do it, I guess.

Classic signs to look for in such hoaxes include reference to genuine companies (to give the email credibility) and ridiculous statements such as "Please send it to everybody you know who accesses the Internet". Genuine companies would never say such things.

Why do people waste their time doing this' date=' and why did someone even bother to send the message out again after all this time?[/quote']

Because people are stupid enough to fall for it and pass it on. Anything that says "pass this on immediately to everyone you know!!!" is almost definitely spam.

If you're unsure, google it. Or search snopes (www.snopes.com).

For viruses check out the homepages of anti virus companies like Symantec (www.symantec.com) where you can search for information on specific viruses and perform online virus scans.

Apologies' date=' but I just googled it and apparently it's a 4 year old hoax:[url']http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/life.asp

Why do people waste their time doing this, and why did someone even bother to send the message out again after all this time?

Every single time you get a notification about a virus, ignore it.

Almost a 100% of them are made so some kid somewhere can find out that he's made a minor panic effectively round the world.

I can see the appeal but I couldn't be arsed - too much competition.
