Scorge
If Maxi, Warden or Captain America haven't mentioned the Five In One in Montrose, then I am going to now.Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.
Scorge
He made that post in 2005.Went to that chipper at the beach in Stoney recently, it was pretty damn good. You sure? I had a black pudding supper a few weeks ago, the batter fell off like paper and the chips were R A N K.not
Jeanette
Butteries are fiiiiiiiiine. If you want a heartattack!! I'm well aware that they are a delicacy in the North East. But it was just something I couldn't get my head around or taste buds into liking!
pogofish
There is something to be said for a rowie with jam, but cheese? That's just filthy. How about cheese, onion, chilli & bacon! Or hot smoked salmon as another pal is partial to. She buys her butteries (fae Dundee!) 60 at a time as she lives away out in the sticks! On the sweet front, there is little better than a good sized dollop of golden syrup IMO:Another night. pogofish
A buttery. None of that southern stuff please!
pogofish
Looks like burnt toast...some hints there that pogofish is no Jamie Oliver!I am actually a rather good & nutritionally sensible cook - Which also gives me scope for the occasional blow-out. That moment when nothing but the finest junk food will do!
Alan Cynic
I'm all for golden syrup on them...must get a tin. Or lemon curd...is it still available?
pogofish
Had some orange curd tarts last week & a lemon merangue pie a while before that but so it must be out there somewhere! Tins of Tate & Lyle are getting difficult to get hold of round here - The squeezy stuff seems more popular instead. Not the same, esp the lack of that extra tanginess as you toward the bottom of it! pogofish
Excellent! Thank you very much! Now, if only we could get Creamola Foam back on the market life would be almost bearable again Shit no! o_OWe used to mix that stuff with vodka & neck it whilst still it was still fizzing. That combination of sugar-rush & impending alcohol poisoning is something I'd rather not have to repeat!
pogofish
Plus it's a lot harder to make stilts out of the squeezy tubes!I used to put some water in them, tighten the lid with a chisel & put on a bonfire. Impressive! Once left one simmering on my gran's cooker. She probably wanted to kill me after it went-off!
pogofish
This just had to be done:Raw mealie pudding.
Alan Cynic
Mealie jerkers, as my mother would say (my dad prefers mealie jimmers.....personally I don't get to know them long enough to give them names..I just eat them!).Back to chippers......another good one (or used to be, anyway) was Cabrelli's in Laurencekirk (might have already mentioned it on another thread???) Jeanette
Jeanette...are you a Tesco rep?????? (if you really ARE, can I get discount on the Lemon Curd please?)Hahaha. Nope, I'm not a supermarket slave. Just a bit bored tonight. Tesco was the first supermarket that popped into my head, so I'm sure the same applies to Asda/Sainsburys/Morrisons etc.I had a tasty chippy in Zanres in Peterhead. Bit of a trek for some chips though.
Alan Cynic
Were they not Britain's best chip shop a few years ago??? Seem to remember them being on the news.

I suppose, with her being in a post-explosion coma, it was hard to tell?
pogofish
Luckilly she was far enough out of the way to only suffer minor scalds. I think I was termed an "experimental" child. :OI always found the Zanre's in Buchanhaven better, although I must admit to having spent a good few hours kanoodling in the Peterhead cafe before now. Their branch in Mintlaw is nae bad either.
Pierre Von Mondragon
Rowies are the logical result of a cholesterol arms race between the French (croissant) and Aberdeen, we won, ours are better, nice one, etc.
pogofish
My cholesterol is reasonable - in the 4s, despite the odd rowie, supper or pudding.
Guest treader.
Zanre's in Fraserburgh is fine as bits, but they are fairly keen on giving you ALL THE SALT IN THE WORLD on your chips. so it's best of you dont ask for it.
