silver fox event on sun 8th jan in the tunnels

Recommended Posts

the silver fox event on sun 8th jan , HAS BEEN CANCELLED BY THE TUNNELS.

the outside promoter who hired the venue told us nothing about it being a pay to play gig.

so what we propose to do is hold an all day event of our own with all the bands who were involved and charge 3.00 admission , and split the profits between all the bands involved.

any bands still interested in playing please call the venue on 01224 211121.

cheers

Silver Fox say they are doing bands a favour. I just got this message from them:

'Do you even know what pay to play is we are doing you a favour by organising a large gig with loads of people going but each band have to do their own thing. We will however have no problem sueing you for spreading costly rumers that are not true. Bands do not go out of pocket on our system as tey sell the tickets that we get the money for.'

And the threat of legal action, that of course is doing bands a favour.

Plus i wish they would stop banging on about fan bases, every time a band plays on the bill of another band they get seen by people who are there to see other bands. This month we put on a gig with Hamper and Eskimo Blonde, hamper hadnt played for ages and didnt have too much of a crowd with them, however Eskimo Blonde had a few more people who saw hamper. We didnt charge the bands to play although we couldn't guarentee a fixed price because we didnt make that much money. Although im sure Hamper gained a couple of new fans who werent there to see them.

I'm sure its the case for most promoters, there to get bands seen without charging them for the pleasure. We have never made a profit, Callum has made a loss on a couple of occassions but we have always made sure the bands get payed and are often embarrassed at not being able to pay as much as we would like due to poor takings.

ha, you can tell them to go fuck themselves. all you did was let us know what they were doing and asked for opinions. everyone then made their own minds up and realised they'd be better off without them.

there's nothing wrong with giving people tickets to sell to their mates but asking for an advance on the sales is out of order as it puts too much pressure on a young band and becomes about generating money rather than working on their set and expanding their genuine fanbase.

what they were doing is merely a way of taking advantage of young inexperienced bands and their friends. rather than playing these 'showcases' and giving the promoter an advance on tickets you 'may' sell, a band would be much better served spending that money in a practice room then playing lots of gigs in the many venues in aberdeen which put on local new bands and encouraging all your friends to come along in the normal way i.e telling them you're playing, making your own posters etc(not doing the promoters job, but marketing your own band how you want it, it's called being professional). genuine promoters will soon notice a band with a professional attitude and who can gather a large crowd and stick them on as support for larger touring acts and you'll grow your fanbase that way. i'd put my favourite hat on the fact that EVERY popular aberdeen band has gathered their fanbase this way and in fact EVERY successful big band has as well, and without giving advances on tickets they've been given by dubious promoters.

if promoters start using pay to play tactics like this all that happens is bands alienate their core fanbase as they feel obliged to bully them into buying tickets for all their gigs so that they can make up the advance they've given to the promoter. silver fox can fuck off, they can't sue you for telling it like it is. it's their own business practice that's losing them business up here nothing else.

Hi. Silver Fox Events are organising a massive all day gig on the 8th of january at the The Tunnels, Aberdeen 2006 and wondered if you would be interested in playing this gig. There will be about 10 bands playing in all therefore a lot of potential exposure to new fans to broaden your fan base. As well as this there are other gigs available in January throughout the UK.

08th of january The Tunnels,Aberdeen

15th of january The Electowerkz, Islington

21st of january The Racehorse,Northampton

22nd of january The Town Mill,Mansfield

29th of january The Snooty Fox, Wakefield

All you have to do to seal a place on this gig is to tell us what address to send tickets to for you to sell! We give all bands 30 tickets in which we get the money for the first 20 and they get the money for the rest! Tickets are to be sold for 5 each giving you a potential profit of 50

I hope you are interested in this offer and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hows about - NO.

Pay to play is totally awful. Why on earth would we want to play for silverfox and get ripped off when it's simple to get gigs in Aberdeen?

It seems that you are booking bands EVEN if they are unheard of and can't pull a crowd - because you know they'll all get at least 20 mates there and you'll get a shitload of cash.

No ta.

Its not pay to play. Bands do not go out of pocket as they sell tickets then send us the cash.

But it IS pay to play. The band is selling YOUR TICKETS.

The point is, any normal promotor would advertise properly, sell tickets through local record shops, sell at the door and sell some though the bands. Any tickets sold by the band the promotr gets the cash for - but the band IS NOT expected to pay the promotor for any unsold tickets!!!!!!!

The band is then paid a reasonable wage. The majority of acts you book are pretty unheard of and will struggle to get more than 20 mates to the gig and therefore will only get paid about a tenner at max.

Book properly like anyone honest and decent.

Merry Christmas

The joys of Myspace...

It should be said that all Aberdeen bands/promoters, if they have means of doing so, should inform as many people to boycott these idiots. Hopefully other cities will do the same.
