Lichfield dies aged 66

11/11/2005 10:33

LONDON (Reuters) - Patrick Lichfield, one of the fashion worlds best-known photographers, has died in hospital after suffering a stroke, a hospital spokeswoman said on Friday. He was 66.

Lichfield, who was first cousin once removed to the Queen, was rushed to hospital on Thursday.

"He died quietly in the early hours of the morning," the spokeswoman said.

Born Thomas Patrick Anson in April 1939, the man who became the fifth Earl of Lichfield and professionally used the name Patrick Lichfield, was considered one of Britains premier photographers after a 44-year career behind the lens.

Among his best-known work was a series of informally posed wedding portraits of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
