Anyone got any idea about how this can be fixed.

Basically my friends laptop has recently started displaying the above error message but its only been since he connected to the Stirling University VPN.

As a result, he can now not watch Monty Python!!!

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

EDIT: Tried updating the Media player from 9 to 10 but no joy.

There's software available called Any Dvd which removes the copyright etc. But I'm thinking your friend may have to rip the dvd to his laptop for this to work.

He won't have to rip the dvd to the hard drive for anydvd to work. get him to check http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306318 for help on dvd problems, or alternatively just tell him to use a proper dvd player for his laptop, it should have had powerdvd or a similar program bundled with it.

I stand corrected.

Try installing PowerDVD. This should stop this error appearing and play your dvd's fine!

Installing PowerDVD inserts VOB Codecs into your Windows system directory, which is then used by Windows Media Player. This error only seems to appear in WMP9 when the codec is missing. It has nothing to do with CSS encryption or using pirated dvd's.
