New Found Power
"Taylor Behl, a student from Virginia, has been found murdered. The prime suspect, Ben Fawley claims to be an amateur photographer and is being held by authorities."News Article Crimelibrary story Apparently she knew this guy through Myspace and livejournal, and him being an "amatuer photographer", he took her out for a "photoshoot" in the woods and promptly murdered her. Oh, and he's since been thrown into jail for possesion of child pornography.Moral of the story: don't go into secluded places with freaks from the internet. Jesus Christ. boss
i really, really dont get the whole 'meeting up with people you met on the internet' thing. i know someone who met their boyfriend and whole social network via a popular hotness ratings website. their entire relationship basically translates as an older guy using a barely legal girl for sexual purposes and not much else. it's all so horrible and seedy.i just think that the internet provides a means to alter and adapt how people are perceived by others, and allows people to indulge in behaviours they wouldn't exhibit 'in real life', because of the relative lack of repercussions involved. i personally just can't trust the idea of 'knowing' someone who you've only spoken to online or read their livejournal or their myspace etc etc but never met face to face several times. i'll never understand. never! gaah. I've got a very good friend who I met on the internet about 6 years ago. We have a similar sense of humour and he was having a few folk from the site we used down to his house in Hull so I went down and met him. I go back down once or twice a year and we just hang out, play pro evo, go get drunk and have a laugh. Not everyone you meet on line is a murdering child molestor. Mind you having said all that one of the guys who went to that first meet up turned out to be a racist cunt (but he was a rangers fan so maybe it was to be expected ) but we just stopped speaking to him and we've never heard from him since. MattJimF
I have to agree with chris, for every bad story about people meeting through the internet there are maybe ten good stories. Even with the popular hotness rating site you metion boss, i have met at least two people, and i know many more people that have had good things happen to them (If it's the one i'm thinking of). The problem is that only the bad shit gets into the news as it's news-worthy, where's the big attention grabbing headline in "couple meet over the internet and get on with each other"? ClicheGuevara
It's not so much guy to guy that's a problem, just really paedo guys to young girls. You just have to decide if it's worth the really small chance that shit is gonna come out of it. If i was a young girl then it's probably not, but if i was meeting a guy i'd spoken to for ages, then it's more likely that i'm not too fussed. As for all the rules to follow on GMTV or whatever...it's all common sense. You've gotta be a dumbass to not follow half of them anyway.
Rachie
Again I'm with Chris, I met a girl from Florida recently who'd I'd got to know on the net because she knew she'd be coming to Aberdeen to go to Uni and wanted to get to know some folk before she got here. If she's a 62 year old child molester then she's looking good for her age or hiding it very well.Public place, bring a friend with you. *Shrug*
Guest MerryChristmas
I dont see the appeal of meeting people off of the internet, never have sought out anyone from online but from time to time do meet one or two wither through work, friends or aquaintances. Ch Black
One of my friends has just met his girlfriend over the internet. They are both really shy and I don't think he'd manage to get a girlfriend any other way, he's pretty busy at work and not the most stunning of fellas. But they're both really happy. I say go for it! Knight of Swords
On the net, I met a girl from New Orleans who was coming over here on holiday and ended up meeting with her. She was 26 (before I get accused of any paedophilia). She didn't murder me or molest my cats or anything.

catherine
in a way you could say ive met heaps of people of the internet. in a way i met my three last boyfriends on the internet..... but it was mainly through this site that i knew who they were and spoke to them in real life... which is different. but they could have been physcos for all i knew at the time.my friend met her ex online in a chat room. they then got talking on msn and after a year of chatting, phoning and letters etc they met up in edinburgh. feel in love and he moved in with her up here.... things can go right. you just need to be careful and safe
