ANDY WHITE (Ireland)

featuring Radoslav Lorkovic (USA)

Irish singer-songwriter Andy White carries a 12 string guitar under his arm and wears his particular brand of Irish magic and charm on his sleeve. With the political edge of the young Bob Dylan, the romance of David Gray and the Celtic influences and lyricism of the Waterboys, an Andy White concert is a special experience. With nine internationally released albums and a book of poetry to his name, Irelands Hot Press Songwriter of the Year will be presenting songs from his latest studio album BOY 40, as well as the best known songs from his back catalogue Religious Persuasion, Looking For James Joyces Grave, Street Scenes From My Heart. The show will feature Radoslav Lorkovic on accordion and piano. A classically trained musician from a Croatian-American family, Rad draws on a multitude of influences ranging from elegant classical and jazz styles to the rawest, most basic blues, country and soul. Andy and Rad will bring with them a limited edition live album recorded in Minneapolis last spring entitled OAK CENTER. A record of a rip-roaring concert one evening in the mid west. Andy White is a singer-songwriter of and for our times. Documenting the world and its current chaos and beauty with remarkable insight. He has worked with the greats of Irish music Donal Lunny, Van Morrison, Sinead OConnor co-written with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Neil and Tim Finn, been produced by John Leckie (Radiohead, Pink Floyd) and toured the world playing all the great rock and folk festivals, including WOMAD festivals in Australia, the US, South Africa, Singapore and Spain. At WOMAD Reading this year Andy had the honour of being chosen as the musical director of the finale. Andys latest studio album is BOY 40, featuring the edgy political concerns and offbeat humour of Andys best known work. Filled with charm and shot through with his trademark wit. Written on the road and recorded in both London and Melbourne, BOY 40 is an album about innocence and experience, the so-called war on terrorism, a search for spirituality, the Twelfth of July and <sum> Italian Girls On Mopeds. Andy and Radoslav are appearing in Basel as first date on the English leg of a world tour which started off in Alaska, taking in Spain, two WOMAD festivals, Italy and Holland along the way. Try to get a listen to their live album available exclusively at their concerts. It features songs from Andys back catalogue right up to and including BOY 40.
