Bodast
There's a top 500 too. Can - Tago Mago only got to 219. And as far as I can see, Time and a Word by Yes didn't get in at all. It may not be the proggest thing ever but they put Pink Floyd's Piper in and neither is that! Grr...
palmer_eldritch
Yes "Fragile" should be on the list. Also, no mention of "Ghost"?to be honest it seems there are only really the "mainstream" prog bands making the list. As Bodast pointed out, prog archives shows there is a lot more prog has to offer than just the artists on that list.

Guest MKII
Don't get me wrong' date=' I like Pink Floyd, but it seems a bit of an extravagence to compile a top 100 prog albums list, I mean, its a fairly limited genre it seems (despite the name of the genre!). Something along the lines of a top ten would probably have been a little more representative, rather than seemingly listing every prog album released.EDIT: Of course it doesn't really matter as its just a list and people can make lists however long they choose. Also, I used the word "seem" and its different forms (seems, seemingly) far too much. Sorry.[/quote']There are thousands of albums that could have appeared in that list! I'm with Ravensby on this' date=' the genre appears anything but "progressive".[/quote']It was to begin with, but it accumulated lots of cliches just like any other genre, a lot of which a band you like use on their albums. black_matter
That's a well compiled list i must say. I myself would personally add "chromaticity" by tony macalpine purely for the fact im addicted to the song 'still valley'
GraemeC
Well as per usual Pallas prove much more popular outside the uk....The results from the Dutch Progressive Rock poll http://www.dprp.net/dprpoll/2005/index.phpOh, and they are off to play Rosfest in a couple of weeks... black_matter
good for them to be in the same poll as dream theater would be a major honour!

It's also surprisingly one of the biggest websites in Holland apparently.CheersStuart
weaver
I like Opeth, but there is no way that Ghost Reveries should be higher than Lateralus. Part of the whole thing with Prog is making an atmosphere and the production and artwork has a lot to do with that. Opeth just doesn't compare. What makes a good Prog band for me is one that can make an epic lengthed song interesting from start to finish and not slip into background music territory. I really like Tool, but I dont find them consistantly brilliant throughout any of their albums.
