belladonnaleaves
yeh, in the last few years i really got into this guys writing and noticed recently how sad it was so few of his stories have been made into films etc. Theres meant to be a damn fine film version of dagon however, which i plan to watch soonish, and i also hear one of his finest stories ever (at the mountains of madness) is to be made into an anime feature (or is already in the pipeline) I realise his writing isn't for everyone, but i urge anyone into gothic and dark literature to try him out. Some of his other tales would make better films than a hell of a lot of the so called horror genre thats around nowadays. I also feel a lot of the newer japanese horror flicks are definitely using elements that he originated.
soundian
Just feel glad you can enjoy the books without having to hate the ham-fisted attempts at making them into films most of my favourite books have suffered.
belladonnaleaves
yeh, fair enough, war of the worlds was one that recently suffered for me. Could've set it as at was in the novel etc etc But lovecraft is so vivid in his imaginings, it could be done so well...

Alan Cynic
I like the books (I think they were the first place I'd seen the word "Eldritch"!).An anime version sounds a bit doubtful, though!
Afro Droid
There was a movie adaption of the Dunwich Horror starring Dean Stockwell in the Seventies, it was terrible:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065669/And a TV movie called Necronomicon that adapted Shadow Over Insmouth and a coupl'a others:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107664/It wasn't great either, but I have both on video somewhere...I love, er, Lovecraft. Did my RPR in Higher English on him. I'd highly recommend also.
Wishbone G
Ive tried umpteen times to get through reading The Mountains of Madness but i can never finish it. His writing is great, but i got so bored with statistics, and techniques on drilling, or whatever. Cant remember much of it now, might give it another try some time soon. The Ghost Of Fudge
those lovecraft anthologies come highly recommended.so many classics. the one with witches, fanged beasts, oddly shaped rooms, incredibly complicated quantum-maths and alien worlds clings to my mind.poe as well. very nice. lepeep
the big gods in "hellboy" were very "lovecraft"...I should go and look out some call of cathulu..as for the RPG, played that when I was 18, strange, but very interesting.

Afro Droid
Goddamn I forgot the whole Re-animator series. They're not very Lovecraftian in tone, but they are great.
belladonnaleaves
i believe at the mountains of madness is being done in a manga stylee, so perhaps not so doubtful...
belladonnaleaves
oh yeh, i almost forgot. I watched the dagon film (which is actually a mix of dagon and the shadow over innsmouth) and despite some suspect acting (its very watchable) really enjoyed it. Its very gory, the monsters are believable, relentlessly dark and the best lovecraft based film i've yet seen. Highly recommended.
