Bodast
www.genesis-music.com is, officially, my most visited site. And one time, on the forum, I started a thread that got to fifty pages long and it was all about every single cute thing that any of the band members had ever done. (Only about a quarter of the total input was mine)
Marillionboy
Why is it considered so credible to slag Genesis off? Go and listen to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and then tell me you knew already that this is what they sounded like when you jumped on that tired old bandwagon. Bodast
Yeah but it means we get to be outraged about people misunderstanding Genesis all the time
elsmudge
My parents have some of their stuff and it is awful!
Marillionboy
I am of the view that they sold out so grossly in their later years that its their own fault they now don't have the respect that Floyd or Zeppelin have. But if you can just see beyond the 80s toss, the music they made in the early 70s is absolutely incredible. Means sod all to me whether you accept that or not, but I just hate people trying to look good by slagging off an easy target. Thgere's something you love in your cd collection at the moment you'll probably pretend you never liked in a few years time.
Bodast
Well maybe, but if people slag them off without listening, then it's their loss...I like the 80s stuff anyway. Not in the same way as I like the 60s/70s stuff, but .. Jesus He Knows Me? Class
Marillionboy
Some of its ok, but its like a different band. Only they could have written The Musical Box, but half a dozen bands could have written much of the 80s stuff. But Mama especially is pretty special. Soph, the old picture of Phil was better
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Anything involving Phil Collins is going to be horrible.

TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
brand x? fuckin incredible project with phil collins brilliant musicianship Yeah, but what about the Phil Collins part? And I don't care about musicianship, if a songs is bad it's bad, no matter how well it's being played.
Guest b-bert
listen to the drum duet on "seconds out" then say you have no respect for phil collins.even if you dont like his songs he is a great drummer
Guest bluesxman
that reminds me of a "cd swap for the working day" I did at my old office job' date=' and I swapped "The Raveonettes - Glorious B minor" with a guy... and you know what I got back?Fucking Genesis.[/quote']That's a very poor swap. Did he like the Raveonettes? *guesses no*

Guest bluesxman
As someone tries to play drums, I admire endlessly those with high talent levels on the drums. But the idea of a 'drum duet'....*speechless*
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Drum duet? What a dick.
Marillionboy
Okay, so anything with Phil Collins in is going to be shit? He nearly ended up bieng in The Who and Led Zep, so no doubt that makes everything they did before he would have joined shit too?Interesting then, seeing as how up until about 1981 he played hardly any role at all in the writing of Genesis material. And since when has he been a Tory? Get a grip and stop churning out misinformed opinions fed to you by other people.

Spreading lies about sweet Phil. http://politics.guardian.co.uk/gallery/image/0,9353,-10804453210,00.htmlAnd I don't think it's shit because he's in the band - I think it's shit because it's shit. Marillionboy
What has he got to do with a thread on Genesis anyway? Are Roxy Music a shit band because Bryan Ferry did some droopy solo stuff? Are The Who shit because Daltry did some droopy solo stuff? Are Cream shit because of Clapton's solo career?

If Genesis whilst he was just the drummer in the 70's rule, that's fair enough. The pics of Peter Gabriel dressed as a flower have kind of put me off and I have never heard the material. But then, I never slagged off that stuff anyway. I slagged the evil one who gave us Easy Lover. With his Leonard Rossiter impression in the video. If he had replaced Keith Moon then no, I would have still loved the Who's old stuff. But then I don't own all The Who albums anyway because even when Moon was alive they turned out some rubbish. french_disko
I think nearly is the important word there.Yeah, as in "Phew, The Who & Zep were NEARLY shit because of Phil Collins". Funnily enough, Phil played for Zep at Live Aid in Philadelphia & they were shit. Coincidence? I think not.
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
The thought of Phil Collins playing rock n roll makes my skin crawl.
