would i have any problem using an ipod here that was purchased in america?

No problem at all. I bought mine in New York & there was no problem - well, until the flat was burgled & it got nicked (insurance has replaced it though!).

The only difference is the charger - it'll have the American style two pins on it rather than the UK three pins. Just get one of those plugs you use for an electric razor (cost about 75p) & that'll do fine.

Price works better as well - I got a 20GB and it was $299 - this worked out at 176 & it's selling at 225 in the UK just now.

Pick up a 500mb shuffle as well if you're feeling flush - $69. It's handier for the gym / jogging.

Also the American ipods are louder. There is a volume 'cap' on the British models, but they can be deactivated with a download.
