We're halfway-ish through the year so time to reflect on the year's best album releases so far. I reckon it's been a great year and here is my list to prove it.

I think this year has been great for music, i could easily name over ten.

1. The Arcade Fire - Funeral (Before anyone says it, UK RELEASE!!)

2. British Sea Power - Open Season

3. M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us

4. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

5. Idlewild - Warnings/Promises

6. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

7. The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

8. Hot Hot Heat - Elevator

9. Malcolm Middleton - Into the Woods

10. Antony and the Johnsons - Now I Am a Bird

11. Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In a Digital Urn

12. Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth

13. Dresden Dolls - Dresden Dolls

14. Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous

15. The Departure - Dirty Words

16. Saul Williams - Saul Williams

17. New Order - Waiting For the Sirens' Call (altho this is pish in comparison with the rest)

I look forward to the releases by Billy Corgan, Editors and JJ72.

I was sure that was out last year' date=' but either way that's my choice as I haven't been listening to much new music. However, I agree there's been a lot more good music out this year so far than there was last year.[/quote']

I thought it was released in america last year but here this year. Might be wrong.

Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny Of Souls (Brilliant, Bruce has outdone himself again)

HammerFall - Chapter V (Decent, but a bit samey. Could have been better)

So far...

and am eagerly awaiting Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part III , as Helloween are probably my favourite metal band, and in my top 3 all-time favourite bands!

It was released in August '04, not quite this year.

Dresden Dolls was out before christmas too, I bought it end of Novembar, but good choice all the same.

I haven't bought that many new albums, I've been working on catching up with some older bands I've just discovered, as a result I've only got 5 albums that have been released this year.

Brenden Benson - Alternative to Love

System of a Down - Mezmerize

The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm

Tom McRae - All Maps Welcome

So far, so groovy. There's still a few more I'm waiting to come out, but I reckon it's been a good year, especially for my 'pet' bands.

Bruce Dickinson easily the best album of the year so far... (bear in mind Demons & Wizards and Stratovarius have new releases coming)

But, alas, Hammerfall's latest offering was, well, shit to be honest! Crimson Thunder was a great album, but Chapter V seems totally weak and "forced". It's like they have nothing left and just threw together some random leftovers... shame really because everything they have done uptil now is really awesome.

Dissapointments of the year

Mars Volta - Frances the mute

Really? I would say that's one of my favourites from this year, if not all time. What didn't you like about it? Apart from the 6 minutes of traffic perhaps...

Also liked...

Team Sleep - Team Sleep

Q.O.T.S.A. - Lullabies To Paralyze (Twas a real grower, although not as good as Songs For The Deaf.)

I'm not sure, I just realised how many old albums I've bought this year. Few that just missed out from last year, Infinity Land, Futures....

Futureheads - whatever the fuck its called - should be called - yet another attempt to rip off XTC/Gang of Four done really shit by wankers

Exactly! I keep hearing people calling Bloc Party or the Futureheads "totally original". They're both just a direct Gang of Four rip-off, if they re-recorded 'Damaged Goods' by Gang of Four, no-one would bat an eyelid and it would be heiled as their best song.

Revolting.
