Adam Easy Wishes
Surely you have a copy of the book? Yeah, but if she's only mentioned in a small section of it, it would mean searching the book pretty thoroughly.

Guest Ancient Mariner
writing scotland nowSure sounds like it. If someone has a spare 3 hours, they can discuss the statement "Scots is a language capable of doing more than English" with reference to Robert Crawford's poetry, for me. Marillionboy
Good essay title. I'd answer it with reference to Peter McDougall and Duncan McLean too!
Guest Ancient Mariner
I would do, but it's only 1200 words, why do more than is required?

Guest Ancient Mariner
A goth if I remember correctly? haven't read the book for about 8 years' date=' must dig it out again.[/quote']That's right, a teenage goth, cousin of Renton (which doesn't stop him thinking about sleeping with her after his brother's funeral, although he settles for his brother's wife). She also has her own passage where she moans about being misunderstood and hating her parents etc.
threeornothing
Anyone read the sequel? Thoughts? I haven't read the original (its sitting in the bookshelf gathering dust, along with the 4 other books I own....) but the film is great. From my understanding, its not so much intertwined short stories as its set in different time periods, the soundtrack to the movie seems to convey this impression as opposed to signs like "1989" "1992" coming up....Quoting the director here
Marillionboy
Still not read the sequel. But Trainspotting is a series of loosely connected stories, without a central character threading them all together, whereas the film plucked ouit Renton and made him the center of the piece.I thought the film was shit on a stick when it came out and again when I watched it about four years ago, but having rewatched it now I think it's pretty good. Style over substance just like Shallow Grave, and a bit like flicking through the book at high speed, and totally obsessed with its own cool, but there's a lot of good stuff in there. For me the two biggest problems with the film are that its a totally middle class take on the story: McGregor is just totally wrong as renton, when Welsh was giving a voice to the youth on the schemes at Pilton and the like. To me the movie Renton comes across more as a middle calss rebel. Also it has no real idea of how it wants to deal with heroin...how come Renton cold turkeys and yet manages to take a test hit later with no ill effects? And since when do Edinburgh junkies become city whizkids?
Guest DustyDeviada
Yeah, Trainspotting the book hit me big time when I was about 17, then the film came out and was hyped up massively in the middle of all the cool britania, britpop, TFI Friday stuff and was of course a huge disappointment.Like you I've re-evaluated it since and as a stand alone film, it's OK, not great, but pretty good. I'm not sure how anyone could have done a better job of adapting the book though, which I still think is one of the greatest books ever written. Guest tv tanned
I remember going to see the stage show at the arts centre a fair few years ago, it was most enjoyable.
Marillionboy
I was there for that too but I loathed it. I remember the axctors biogs saying things like "he is a good shag" etc which was about the saddest thing I'd ever seen in my life. One couple walked out during the waitress monologue though so that was something!
Guest tv tanned
I was only young at the time, but I recall being told by a teacher that she didn't like the stage show because of all the swearing and drug references.I mean wtf? Guest DustyDeviada
Saw the stage show at the Lemon Tree theatre before the film came out, must have been early 96, have to say I didn't think much of it, although I didn't loath it as much as the film.Porno, the sequel, is pretty good although I generally enjoy everything that IW comes out with... well, maybe draw the line at Ecstasy. Marillionboy
Filth is the one that really seems to perovoke the wildest reactions, not rad that yet. Give me James Kelman any day over Welsh but Trainspotting is a gem.
Guest DustyDeviada
I love Filth, probably my favourite after Trainspotting. Lent somebody my copy and never got it back, will have to pick up another.
