If you don't own them already, go and buy the following albums:

'Blackwater Park' - Opeth

'Metropolis Pt. 2 - Scenes from A Memory' - Dream Theater

'Stabbing The Drama' - Soilwork

And you're lives will be far, far superior to all of your friends (except of course if they own those albums in which case you're not as cool as them, so go and buy them)

Guest Scorge Spike

I'd agree with the first two choices. The Soilwork album is a bit iffy.

Anyway, here follows my list of 20 'metal' albums you really should have off the top of my head (post 1980). If you score less than 12, you're probably a fool (or too skint to afford the more obscure ones). Here goes.....

Anacrusis - Suffering Hour

Bal Sagoth - A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria

Bathory - Blood Fire Death

Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion

Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm

Dream Theater - Images And Words

Gamma Ray - Land Of The Free

Iced Earth - Horror Show

Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast

Megadeth - Rust In Peace

Metallica - Kill 'Em All

Mithras - Worlds Beyond The Veil

Motorhead - Ace Of Spades

Opeth - Orchid

Paradise Lost - Icon

Slayer - Reign In Blood

Stratovarius - Elements Pt I

Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite

Testament - The Gathering

Venom - Welcome To Hell

I know there are omissions and I await a barrage of abuse regarding my lack of knowledge on the subject.....

They can be great when they want to be. They're a lot better with Ripper now, but I still liked Barlow's vocals.

Although I still wish Ripper was with Priest.

Anyways, heres a few more albums that are essential:

BLAZE - Silicon Messiah

BLAZE - Tenth Dimension

BLAZE - As Live As It Gets

BLAZE - Blood and Belief

Wolfsbane - Massive Noise Injection

Iron Maiden - The X Factor

Savatage - Wake Of Magellan

Megadeth - So Far, So Good...So What? (RIP has already been mentioned)

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Judas Priest - Jugulator

Can't think of anything else right now. Will probably add more later.

EDIT: Here we go.

Bruce Dickinson - The Chemical Wedding

Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth

Paradise Lost - Icon

I bought Horror Show by IE last weekend. I've only listend to it once but...hmm. I don't think it's as good as The Glorius Burden. Dracula is great though' date=' Ripper sounds awesome on it.[/quote']

Don't you know... you can't say the G-B word on the Atom forum... it is the album of which they do not speak.

It is an awesome album, esp. Gettysburg which is pure gold - but it ain't quite good enough to beat Something Wicked which is utterly amazing

I agree, especially with the first choice. Although need to include Alien by Strapping Young Lad which is selling more albums that Soilworks already...that said, the Soilwork album is ace

That is by far the greatest sentence ever commited to type.

all i heard was "nyer nyer nyer" "doosh doosh doosh" and "clank clank clank" ... not great.

however i was up all night friday, driving down to derby at 3am sat morning so i was pretty twatted!

PL however, remained a load of bum! Highlights being Dragonforce, Edguy and Nightwish!

'Still Life' is superior to 'Blackwater Park', although only just... also the Soilwork you album isn't all that great to be honest, 'The Chainheart Machine' and 'A Predators Portrait' are far superior.

AS for Dream Theater, that is probably their best work... although '6 Degrees Of Inner Turbulence' is quite spanking.

in YOUR opinion. That's why I gave mine... ;)

Personally I think the Chainheart Machine is pretty good - especially machine gun majesty - certainly better than Steel Bath Suicide, although like you say, A Predators Portrait is amazing.

As far as opeth goes... I prefer blackwater park. Then deliverance. Then My arms your hearse. THEN still life.

Also I don't think much of 6 degrees... except for the glass prison.

Oh, and Mr Demon of the fall... the new In Flames album is RUBBISH!!!! (in my opinion)
