Larsen B Posted February 17, 2009 Report Share Posted February 17, 2009 How is the new Beirut? I've heard mixed opinions...I can't really then because my own opinion is mixed. The March of the Zapotec disc is the one with a Mexican funeral band (or some such thing) and it's good but there is no revelatory difference in sound between Mexican and Balkan brass bands by the sound of it. The second disc is kind of dull really. I've read that the electro-pop sound of it was influenced by the Magnetic Fields, but the songs aren't nearly as memorable or nuanced as TMF.That said I've only listened to it once. unbroken Posted February 23, 2009 Report Share Posted February 23, 2009 Any good?only listened to it once, but upon that first listen, i'd say they have taken all the best bits from full collapse, all the best bits from a city by the light divided and joined it together.It's got that old school Thursday stabbing guitar rhythm thing going on. Production is so so as expected. However, they have re done "as he climbed the dark mountain" from the envy split, and managed to ruin it. Not a patch on the original.
