  10. Fridge Magnets return to Snafu for the first time in almost a year, and the first time they have played Aberdeen since the main stage at the Big Beach Ball in May earlier this year. We are delighted to announce that the special guests for the evening inc Krazzy Martin, DHC DJ's, Nevada Base (LIVE) and Cheeens (LIVE). Fridge Magnets www.facebook.com/TheFridgeMagnets Fridge Magnets. Up and coming electro-indie rockers, party animals and all round crazy bastards. These are a group of ambitious young guys, headed by the charismatic Steven Winton. It all started with a few gigs in slightly more humble venues such as ABC 2 and King Tuts, Glasgow, however promoters quickly realised that this is a band that can both draw a crowd, and more importantly, keep them entertained . As a result they were soon putting in excellent performances at the likes of Rockness, T In The Park and Belladrum festivals, and supporting the likes of Calvin Harris, Alex Metric, Japanese Popstars and Burns. In March 2012 they won the award for 'Best Electronic Act' at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards beating off a lot of strong competition. They received Radio 1 support for their demos of, Death of Rock 'N' Roll, Weapon and Feeling Grows, before the latter was playlisted on daytime Radio 1 and played by the likes of Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills, Greg James, Dev, Huw Stephens, Nick Grimshaw, Annie Mac and Gemma Cairney. 'Feeling Grows' was also synced in a STA Travel ad. Following this, they won their 2nd award of the year, picking up Best Electronic Band at the Electronic Music Maker Awards. If you are looking for an insight into what the band actually sound like they describe themselves as “a mash up of Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 with elements of Example and Faithless”. Winton never fails to get the crowd going and his professional and consistent front man performances backed up by the musical talents of Ciaran Pasi (bass), Laurie Sanderson (lead guitar), Chris Philip (drums) and Campbell Nelson (synthesiser/programming) rarely disappoint. It has become very clear that Fridge Magnets are destined for bigger and better things and not surprising that they have been invited to play at huge events such as The Lynx All Nighter at London’s Coronet Theatre. In a recent interview with STV, Campbell Nelson stated "Swapping places with The Prodigy would be a dream, they provide the type of live show that we aim to have one day. They fill any arena in any country." This is a bold statement but one that, by account of their recent performances, you have to take seriously. If you don't actively seek out Fridge Magnets you will most likely come across them sooner or later as they are destined for Rock-stardom. Check your festival line ups, your local clubs and all the best dance bands supporting acts and you’re sure to see the name pop up sooner or later. It may be the 'Death of Rock 'N' Roll' but it's definitely not the death of electro rock, only the beginning. Nevada Base https://www.facebook.com/nevadabase Nevada Base are a synth-pop band fusing drums, guitar and bass with synthesisers and samples. The band are Albert (voice/guitar), Andy (bass), James (synths/vocoder/percussion) and, since 2011, Calum (drums/samples). The current line-up features live drums for a full-on stage sound, moving away from pre-sequenced beats to a completely live and laptop-free setup. The band have shared bills with the likes of Metronomy, New Build (ex LCD Soundsytem and Hot Chip), Den Haan, Silver Columns, Late of the Pier, Ewan Pearson, Memory Tapes, Hooray For Earth, Findo Gask and Fenech Soler - in great venues like King Tuts, SubClub and The Arches in Glasgow, as well as the Bongo Club, GRV and Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh. They’ve also played live at RockNess, the Wee Chill, Insider Festival, Kelburn Garden party, and the Scottish BAFTA Awards. They also play T in the Park "T-Break Stage" 2012. Their songs are about noise-control officers, mental illness, robotics, geographical obstacles, mysterious women from space, electricity, love and the importance (or otherwise) of timeliness. The end result is about making heartfelt, thoughtful – danceable – pop. Cheeens https://www.facebook.com/ItsCheeens Cheeens is a MC from Aberdeen, UK. His clever rhymes and unique Sound make him stand out from other MC's in his field. His music is for all hip hop heads alike and he's not driven by the monotony of todays music. He's never been scared to step out of the box and try something new with every rhyme he writes. His contribution to hip hop should not go unnoticed. He's everything a homegrown artist strives to be, originality at it's finest. DJ's for the evening: Krazzy Martin https://www.facebook.com/KrazzyMArtin & DHC DJ's. Doors open at 8.30pm. £6

  13. - kicking off July with a bang as Funk D' Void, nearly 20 years in the game and still touring and producing at the highest level, makes a long awaited return to Snafu. His diversity and consistency has brought huge acclaim from key figures over the years, balanced well with a string of dance floor smashes. === Fri 6th July === FUNK D'VOID (Soma / Cocoon / Bedrock / Outpost) 11pm-3am || £7 adv || 1 Union St, Aberdeen ________________ Adv tickets from our website and RA Lars Sandberg AKA Funk D'Void, is a DJ and producer who has been at the forefront of the global electronic music scene since the mid-90s. He started Djing at around the tender age of 15, running two under-18 clubs himself – a perfect start to his career. Knowing his vocation to music from an early age after being brought up by his professional pianist mother, Lars never had any doubt as to where his future would lie. House music changed his life, the early Chicago sound specifically, and hearing the certain sounds during his childhood stirred something inside him; the 808 drum machine used on Marvin Gaye's “Sexual Healing” secured his fascination with these electronic sounds – the turning point over to the Detroit techno sound was almost a spiritual moment as it forged his unique sound that would follow over the coming years – visceral, soulful and without compromise. After a string of hits over the years (“Jack Me Off”, “Bad Coffee” “Emotional Content”) plus some killer remixes for the likes of Underworld, New Order and Kevin Saunderson, he is probably best known for the end-of-nighter 'Diabla' which bridged house and techno (and was flogged by everyone from Danny Howells to Sven Vath). And if you look carefully you’ll also spy the name ‘L. Sandberg’ in the liner notes of releases by deep house producer Francois Dubois, whose “Blood” and “I Try” were huge underground hits of 2006 and 2007 respectively. Collaborations with such luminaries as Phil Kieran and more recently Sian have produced stellar results - further galvanising his diversity in the techno arena and has led us to the somewhat overdue arrival of his own personal label, Outpost. Much in demand DJ and critically acclaimed producer, his Djing style is everything you expect a true music lover’s taste to be: he is comfortable and adept at moving any dancefloor, the proof being that he is one of the busiest Djs on the circuit today, and has been for the last 15 years. _______________ clubsnafu.com/box-office clubsnafu.tumblr.com twitter.com/snafu_aberdeen Snafu 1 Union St, Aberdeen World's Top 100 Clubs 2012
