Hi all, I thought it would be interesting to kick off a thread about the use and influence of music in politics, particularly in the general election. Firstly, I should probably mention that I am the Scottish Socialist Party candidate in Aberdeen North in the general election. I have actually recorded a video of my playing a song I wrote about why people whould vote for me here:
However, my interest is political song goes deeper this just this election, I'm quite into playing traditional music and have found there's loads of great political songs out there, or just songs that treat with different issues, and so I've found music can be used in a variety of obvious and subtle ways to convey a particular message. Thus from Robert Burns' a man's a man on the more subtle, universal themes, to the 'Cameron girls' trying to drum up votes for the Tories, music and politics mix a lot for better and worse: but I wonder what the funniest/best/worse uses of music and song for political ends there have been in recent years...
