  1. Of Mice & Men Date 24/4/12 Venue The Tunnels Doors 20:00 Age Restrictions Over 14′s Price £10 Tickets Crowdsurge Facebook Event RSVP Support to be announced Of Mice & Men is a metalcore/post-hardcore band formed in Costa Mesa, California, United States in 2009 by Austin Carlile and Jaxin Hall. Their current line-up consists of Austin Carlile (ex. Attack Attack!), Shayley Bourget (ex. Covette), Phil Manansala, Valentino Arteaga (ex. Lower Definition) and Alan Ashby. After recording Someday Came Suddenly and touring with Attack Attack!, Austin was kicked out of the band. After that, Austin decided to start something new on his own. He asked one of his best friends Jaxin Hall from New Zealand to be his partner in crime and a part of whatever he did next. The two got their friends in Though She Wrote and Miss May I to help them write and record the song “Seven Thousand Miles For What?” they had been working on. The next day they posted it and made a MySpace page. Five days later the inevitable happened. They joined up with the two people that had stood by them since day one. Rise Records and Artery were always considered family, and after hearing the song, they were signed. Solidifying the line up with Valentino Arteaga from Lower Definition on drums, Shayley Bourget from Covette on guitar and vocals, and Phil Manansala from A Static Lullaby on guitar, Of Mice & Men recorded their debut self-titled album. On April 5, 2010, Of Mice & Men announced on their MySpace that Austin Carlile was no longer in the band due to an inability to tour because of heart surgery and a personal feud with the guitarist. He was replaced with former Sky Eats Airplane vocalist Jerry Roush. After completing all of Bamboozle Festival 2010, Of Mice & Men took part in the 2010 Vans Warped Tour. Jerry Roush was then stranded by the band and Austin invited back in after his heart condition got better and when Austin and the rest of the band made amends. They are on the 2011 Warped Tour and have released their second album, The Flood. Of Mice & Men’s Facebook >>
  2. Evening, Just wrote a little piece on Gabriel Bruce - he used to play in Loverman, who were dark, grungey and ace. His first solo offering is one for the Cave/Cash/Cohen fans out there.
  3. I really like her Interpol cover of 'Slow Hands' - it's ace
  4. Yes please do - there's actually another event in the calendar without a thread that is the right dates.

Date 8/3/12 Venue The Lemon Tree Doors 20:00 Age Restrictions Over 14′s Price £15 Tickets Crowdsurge Plus The Union The road to rock ‘n’ roll glory is littered with the smouldering remnants of bands that blazed brightly for a few brief moments and then fizzled out in a cloud of thwarted ambitions. But every now and then a band emerges that walk, talk and rock like true saviours of our beloved music’s spirit and soul. Founded in Northern Ireland in 2000, The Answer have spent the last decade proving their rock ‘n’ roll credentials and making the kind of life-affirming, eardrum-threatening music that separates the truly great from the merely adequate. After a few self-financed, low-key releases, the band emerged into the mainstream spotlight in 2005 when their debut single Keep Believin’ became the subject of great critical acclaim and led The Answer to the ‘Best New Band’ award at that year’s Classic Rock Awards. The following year, this young band consolidated that early promise with Rise, a debut album that received universally great reviews and backed up their burgeoning reputation with fistfuls of gloriously anthemic songs like Under The Sky, Into The Gutter and Come Follow Me that delighted everyone from cantankerous classic rock fans to bright-eyed teenagers with a penchant for balls-out rock ‘n’ roll. Rise went on to sell over 125,000 copies worldwide, a startling achievement that ensured that when the band released their second album, the mighty Everyday Demons, three years later, the world was more than ready to embrace The Answer on an even greater scale. The end result of their fearsome reputation, both as an astonishing live band and as rock’s brightest hopes, was a two-year stint as chief support to AC/DC, which took them around the world and into some of the biggest venues on the planet. “We were thrown to the wolves a lot of nights on the road with AC/DC and all we had to fall back on was the four of us playing together,” recalls mercurial guitar hero Paul Mahon. “We had to make it work and dig in really hard. After all that time on the road, our song writing’s so much tighter, all the fat has been stripped away and we’re much more direct. Songs that we had in that vein seemed to go down with their audiences, and we took all of that on board.” Undeniably, The Answer – completed by perennially charismatic frontman Cormac Neeson and the powerhouse rhythm section of bassist Micky Waters and drummer James Heatley – have achieved a great deal in their career so far, but 2011 looks certain to be their most gloriously triumphant year to date. The band has recently completed work on their third album, Revival, which was recorded with producer Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith in both El Paso and Austin, Texas. A thrillingly energised and powerful rock ‘n’ roll album that incorporates the best elements of The Answer’s artistic story so far combined with a gleaming armoury of new ideas and fresh adventures in sound, it sounds very much like the album that could take the band back to those arenas and stadiums, but this time as headliners in their own right. “It’s our best album to date and we think it might turn a few heads!” states Neeson. “It was a lot of fun recording it. The studio in El Paso was on a ranch in the middle of a pecan orchard on 3,000 acres of land and right near the border of Mexico. It was a great place for creating music, and it had that whole Wild West vibe which rock bands can definitely tune into and feed off. It was an unbelievably positive experience and the music really reflects that. It was definitely the right call, going to Texas to record a rock ‘n’ roll album.” “The other albums maybe sounded a little restrained in some respects and Chris came along and told us to dream bigger and rock a lot harder than we had before,” adds Mahon. “He’s a very rock ‘n’ roll guy too, so he wouldn’t let us disappear up our own arses!” With a broad musical palate that takes them from the straightforward, thunderous rock ‘n’ roll vibes of Caught On The River Bed and Veda through to more experimental fare like Destroy Me and Tornado, both of which promise to silence the cynics who regard The Answer as little more than a straight-ahead blues rock outfit, the new album is simply this remarkable band’s definitive statement to date. Loud, confident and oozing white hot soul from every pore, this is The Answer’s first true masterpiece and confirmation that the sky is now the limit for these irrepressible guardians of the rock flame. “People have been saying that rock is dead, but we don’t think it is at all and we’re gonna be proving that when this album comes out!” says Mahon. “One of the benefits of being in a rock ‘n’ roll band is that in some aspects you never grow up. We still have that wide-eyed ambition. We’re still as ambitious as ever and we’ve built a platform where we can go forward, get into those arenas and show people that rock ‘n’ roll is still alive and kicking in a big way. With the record, we’d like to get a bit of respect for our creative achievements, which I think we’ve definitely come on leaps and bounds on this one. We’re very proud of this album.” While the last couple of years kept The Answer on the road as AC/DC’s guests, denying them the opportunity to headline their own extensive tours across the globe, the future now stretches out before the band like their cherished rock ‘n’ roll road itself. With plans to hit the ground running this autumn, armed with their incendiary new material and a renewed sense of purpose and self-belief, The Answer are mutating into the unstoppable force they always threatened to be. “We’ve got a lot of plans for the next couple of years and we can’t fuckin’ wait to get back on the road,” states Neeson. “We’ve got 17 brand new songs ready to go and we’re fuckin’ loving it. Rehearsals are so exciting, piecing together different set lists with the old and new material. When it properly kicks off, that’ll be us on the road for the next two years and we’ll be ready for it. May that time fuckin’ roll on, because we’re ready to go!” The Answers’ Website >> The Answers’ Facebook >>

Pulled Apart By Horses are a 4 piece post-hardcore band from Leeds, England. ‘Surely the best live band in Britain’ said the observer. ‘Pulled Apart by Horses’ could be a sick torture method or the name of a new rock consortium from Leeds of west riding. ‘Momentum has been building steadily over the past year for PABH and the band have quickly grabbed attention from the likes of Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq, the NME, Artrocker and the inquisitive minds of some of Britain’s most recognizable indie labels. The band only began in Feb 2008 and things have moved more than quickly for them so far. Their sometimes angular but mostly aggressive, amp-melting blend of rock riffs and contemporary alt-noise has seen them climb to the top of Leeds’ musical pile and establish themselves as one of the most essential new acts in Britain. They also blew crowds away at this years Leeds & Reading festival after being asked by Radio 1. Influences remain scarce but from the outlook of the set up of this 4-piece it could be suggested that you’ll be in for a disco rock hammering with a large dose of hard riffing and yelping vocalities. 7. Date 11/12/2011 Venue The Tunnels Doors 20:00 Age Restrictions Over 14's Price £7.50 Tickets Crowdsurge Facebook Event RSVP Plus The Little Kicks + The Deportees Broken Records formed in 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland. They use their different musical backgrounds and a wide variety of instrumentation to compliment the eclectic sound they create. Their 2007 self released debut ‘gig’ EP created a genuine music industry buzz around the band. Drowned in Sound said of the release, “This is magical, engrossing and wholly enveloping, genuinely and excitingly bursting with commercial potential.” They refined their sound throughout 2007 and 2008 with numerous gigs throughout Scotland, including support slots with Idlewild, Sons & Daughters and Editors. They released their highly acclaimed debut 7” single, “If the News Makes You Sad Don’t Watch It”, on London based indie label Young Turks in April 2008. This received plaudits from such varied publications as NME, The Guardian, Drowned in Sound, The Sun and The Times. Radio 1’s Steve Lamacq made it his single of the week and Huw Stephens invited them to do a session for Radio 1 at Maida Vale. Limited releases of singles “Slow Parade” and “Lies” led to a scramble of album deal offers, with the band excited to sign to the prestigious 4AD label. They rounded off the year by playing at the Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party and being tipped for 2009 in Q magazine, The Times and News Of The World amongst others. In January 2009 they recorded their debut album, “Until The Earth Begins To Part” at Monnow Valley Studio in Monmouth with producer Ian Caple (Tricky, Tindersticks, Yann Tiersen). The album was released on 1st June 2009 to wide praise, and live performances in support of it garnered 5-star reviews in both The Guardian and The Times. Summer saw them perform at many UK and European festivals including Glastonbury, T in the Park, Haldern Pop Festival and a main-stage slot at Latitude. The successful summer culminated in an invitation to support The National at their Royal Festival Hall show in London, followed by their own sold-out show at The Queens Hall in Edinburgh. Broken Records spent the Autumn touring Europe and the UK as well as releasing the “Out On The Water” EP in November. Early 2010 found them making their well received live debut in the US at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Their music was also featured in episodes of the TV dramas “Skins” and “Lost”, and once again appeared as support to The National on part of their European ‘High Violet’ LP tour in July. In August the band also announced the move from being a seven-piece band to a six-piece for with the departure of Arne and Gill, and the introduction of new member, Craig Ross taking up bass and guitar duties. Oct 2010 saw the UK/EU release of their second album, “Let Me Come Home” along with single “A Darkness Rises Up” which was recorded in Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Delgados, Belle & Sebastian,). Once again the album received great reviews across press, including an 8/10 in NME and a B playlist on BBC 6 Music for the single amongst others. This was backed by a co-headline European tour alongside US band Freelance Whales and the single release of “You Know You’re Not Dead”. In March 2011 they embarked on their debut US headline tour to coincide with the North American release of “Let Me Come Home”. As well as performing several sold-out shows they recorded radio sessions for WNYC in New York, The World Cafe in Philadelphia, and Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW in LA. The third single “The Motorcycle Boy Reigns” will be released on May 16th and the band will be playing several festivals across Europe throughout the summer. Twelve months after their totally unique debut, theyre still in a movement of one. Following the album, the band are set to release Everybody Knows Its True as a single. Built on a percussive Moog tinkle, poly-rhythmic group vocals and half-time drums, the song adds layers and layers of sound that draw you into its downbeat world. We dare you not to listen to the end. Keep your ears open for some unusual instruments too, says keyboard player Andrew Wake: It features a Wurlitzer borrowed from Teenage Fanclub, Sink's [guitarist Greg Sinclairs] Saw skills, Dezi's Reed Organ debut (the one with only a few keys left intact, famed by Island) and the saddest synth melody known to man. 10. Alright Ladies and Gents, Couple of belters for you I've just put Metronomy onsale for the 26th April at The Tunnels - should be a great wee show. Metronomy Tickets Metronomy Myspace "Joseph Mount writes and records music using the name Metronomy. Oscar Cash, Gabriel Stebbing and Joseph Mount perfom that music live and still call themselves Metronomy. Joseph Mount lived in Devon for a time, moved to Brighton and has finally settled for a while in London. On the way he has recorded one album and remixed many bands and artists. Soon a second album will arrive. Until that album arrives (at which time i'm sure a proper biography will be written) please enjoy what's available here and fill in any gaps with your own imaginings." I'm also doing Funeral Party on January 29th at The Tunnels - awesome new band that just did the 30 Seconds To Mars tour (which I find a bit weird to be honest!) Funeral Party Tickets Funeral Party Myspace "Funeral Party is a five-piece band that formed late one night in a park. Hardcore bands and metal bands dominated the local music scene at the time in Whittier, California, an East Los Angeles suburb comprised of mostly working-class enclaves. In the East Los Angeles neighborhoods adjacent to Whittier however, a post-punk dance-craze revival was emerging and Funeral Party began gigging every weekend. The band quickly developed a following and a D.I.Y. ethos that encapsulated East Los Angeles rich musical history. Initially, the band didnt even own equipment and had to borrow it from bands they played with at East Los Angeles backyard parties and warehouses. Funeral Party quickly achieved a mythic stature in the Los Angeles underground. Lars Stalfors, engineer for Mars Volta, invited the band to record in Voltas studio in East L.A. The sessions yielded Chalice, which immediately became East L.A.s theme song and could be heard bumping on iPods throughout Southern California. What is unique about Funeral Party is the bands universal appeal; there exist numerous infusions in their music. This band is crucially important as they have created a visceral music that encapsulates the experiences of contemporary youth. Funeral Party's sound is shaped by disparate realities, manifested in the band's musical approach"
  11. Gutted. Think they got it totally wrong to be honest - should never have rebranded; just worked a little harder and actually listened to the people from Aberdeen who worked for them. Steven was there, and I was in the HMV/MAMA HQ in London and constantly offering to help. I don't think the Riley's problems helped but I think that's probably a wee bit of a PR spin - I know they were struggling.
