  1. If you have I'll take it off your hands .... for a fair price. Email me at moholloran@technip.com Cheers
  2. I've bought an Epiphone Les Paul from t'internet and it could really use a good set up by a good tech or luthier, I think the frets need dressing and the action / intonation is not great. Would anyone be able to reccomend someone who could do this work for me ? I can be contacted at moholloran@technip.com cheers !
  3. hahahha BM's prices on some things are shocking although the chaps that work there are good people and are very helpful. Think I'll take the guitar for a set up and get the PUP's swapped out, and then reevaluate the amp, thanks for the advice. Cheers !
  4. I like what your saying Mark, when I got the guitar the neck wasn't screwed down properly to the body, perhaps the intonation in out ? In fact I think the guitar might benefit from a pro set up. Could anyone recomend someone local who could do a pro set up on an Ibanez with a ZR trem ... ?
  5. The differences ... I think the main differences are in the PUP's it's the "infinity" ones on the new S470, I reckon I'll try a few amps out and see if that sorts out my problems and as a last resort swap out the pickups for something more subtle ... Thanks.
  6. Hi Walt, certainly interested .. do you have any details .. colour ? age etc ? cheers .. moholloran@technip.com
  7. thanks ... sorry should have said, I used to play through a Marshall MG50DFX but sold that on as it was too loud for the house ... I tend to agree with what you guys have said and point the finger at the amp, maybe I should take my Ibanez down to R&B and see what sounds best with it ? I want to get away from modelling amps and thought that a "small" basic valve amp (VOX / Marshall / Peavey)would be good, as long as it has reverb I'm happy Thanks for your replies ...
  8. Hi there. I'm new to this forum but hope to be a constructive and helpful member. I've recently replaced my old and battered Ibanez Radius with an Ibanez S470 (black) but I'm a little disappointed with the sound I'm getting from it, to my ears it's very dull and lifeless, the distortion I get is very raw and "high gain" and I'm looking for something "smoother" and more emotive. My amp is a Roland 20X Cube and I use no additional effects or processing. My question is how can I improve the "quality" of my sound and achieve a more dynamic and expressive tone ? I bought the guitar online so never really had the chance to test it, from what I've read and heard on the web it's a good guitar so I'm thinking that the problem lies with the amp I'm using. I've considered swapping the stock pickups but don't know what would be my best options I've read that seating Seymour Duncans into an Ibanez can be problematic so do I opt for Di Marzio ? I've also happy to consider a new amp, but again I don't know what to aim for - another digital modeller or perhaps a simpler valve amp with additional processing done via a separate unit ? I attempt to play songs from bands like Marillion, Rush, Whitesnake, Satriani ... that sort of thing and that will give you the kind of sound I'm aiming for .. not too "metal" or "high gain". Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks for reading.
  9. I have the following kit : Ibanez S470BK (18 months old in "as new" condition) Roland Cube 20x (2 months old in "as new" condition) I'm looking to simplify my setup as I seem to spend half of my time experimenting with the pickup selector on the guitar and settings on the amp :o( I'm also developing a worrying fascination with playing scales .... I think I'm becoming a shredder which at my age isn't good lol. Anyway I'm looking to trade my kit in for an Epiphone Les Paul and a simpler practice amp - something with dual channels and reverb would be ideal. I can be contacted at moholloran@technip.com thanks ...
  10. We've all done it haven't we ? You walk into a guitar store and all reason goes out the window and you do an "impulse" buy. That's what happened to me a few months ago, I bought a brand new Epiphone LP standard and if I'm being honest I bought it for the look and finish, it's a lovely deep red vintage cherry burst. I got it home and have tried to like it but I'm just not an LP kind of fella. So if there is anyone out there looking to give a good home to an ELP please drop me a reply ... or email me at work on moholloran@technip.com Pics will be supplied on request. Realistic offers only please Cheers.
