  1. back in the day, i knew of a dealer in the borders who had a metal hook for a hand... here's hoping he doesn't get electrocuted
  2. terry nutkins and the stumps
  3. indeed.. but be warned sometimes it'll just by an older asian couple (the owners perhaps) and their uninspiring offspring but a couple of nights a week there's all manner of sausage battering to be had under the fluorescent lights one could comment that they have perhaps over done their seesions in 'Tanfastic' along the road... but they are ripe (and legal - disclaimer) enough to let them off with that - especially when all 3 Walton sisters are working the fat
  4. I'm presuming (in 18 pages) Bluebird has been mentioned on Urquhart road the black pudding is quite delightful especially when one of the nice girls ( they are legal) is serving..
  5. lovely + clean... to the point 5/5
  6. Big Pauper - u seem to be a bit of a Mr T of the music world, taking all manner of gadgets + influences to produce a unique audio result... are there any technological devices/objetcs/structures that have escaped your radars, either old or new, that you'd like to experiment with? I'm thinking in the range of David Byrne's Playing the Building etc ps. If Snafu offers a charred Chianti on its wine-list I'd love to go
  7. was marvelous to come across Burke's skeleton in the anatomy department of edinburgh university during 'doors open' weekend... reminded me of the pleasures of inflicting pain and while Burke & Hare paid the price (by way of noose) they made some decent earnings on the side too
  8. it's a little know fact but one can also purchase flick-tix in the cafe downstairs... so bustle past the initial queues and relax sipping chianti like the rest of us
  9. darker and easier on the eye... the piercing red lights cut across my prey as they fluster like little nervous lambs awaiting the chop. once wax learns how to decant the chianti i shall frequent the lovely dungeon more often
  10. settle the GB representation by having a home nation's tournament at least give us a chance for some mindless violence
  11. those creatures at The Skinny have a gallery Gallery :: Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival :: The Skinny
  12. i would contest that... they came largely on the back of more influential indie bands besides it's mainly the band themselves who preach this disturbingly incorrect statement - which i see soley based on record sales, largely to brainwashed heathens, easily targeted by the more savy media/marketing world in the 90s the only influence i can see is an increase in cocaine consumption amongst the lower echelons of society who can't afford it but desire to live the pitiful dream however i do hope the performance is enjoyable to all
  13. just give me a live venue with a decent bloody wine list
  14. it may be this horrible shiraz distorting my eyes but when and where exactly is this?
  15. Yes Tubthumper... on must draw these decisive conclusions from such little evidence all of the time. That way we can all embrace (our) scottishness without fear of evolving - ever
  16. well, the connection between all these statements is that a scotsman (or 2) was involved all aboard the McMoaney-bus - johnny's driving!
  17. Home [Monocle] issue 15 [Monocle]
  18. indeed, the city-sea location was utilised in rather splendid fashion last weekend down fittee... i could of sworn i was strolling along the amalfi coast but the wiff of buckfast soon brought me back to reality
  19. one must, one must a drop of brunch chianti will get the juices flowing
  20. i deplored the P+J/Evening Expresses' editorial last winter when some young press loon was comparing the 'carnage' on Union St to the war-zones of Afghanistan or Iraq!! quite appalling contribution to print (let alone disrespect to our armed forces) that will just scaremonger the older generations from even coming in for a drink or meal in some of the better establishments... meanwhile the younger folk just lap it up and have a chuckle over a nice imported vodka.. from the City of Airdire or somewhere equally as continental i dare say the eager (council-tapping) journalist posts under alias on this very forum - certainly judging by the low quality of posting over the last 20 pages however, i've been unjustly taunted for my penchant for beige, flanel suits on the late ABZ streets on more than one occassion... while superhero-tagged stag nights have taken to chasing my 2-wheeled ride in drunken, slightly angry, hilarity... luckily i slip into 3rd gear and make hasty exit. All this says to me is our geographic location + industry dependence increases insecurities and acceptance of something/somebody different one would hope an increase in arts confidence would rally to defuse the eejits en-masse... having lived and worked in florence, barcelona , london, glasgow, and edinburgh (most over 2yrs at a time) i'm happy to call this home for many of the positive examples mentioned already it becomes ones duty to contribute to a city's development if you have the chance... but on a day like today i feel jesus had it easier
  21. ahhh i grasp what you're saying here Joe... i dare say i felt the need to rant against the whole negativity in the thread but singled you out unfairly - pretty sure we're batting for the same team... and over a montepullciano or two the conversation will surely flow below the green banks of sumptuous creative endeavours in union terrace gdns i must apologise for associating myself with the Brucie's crudeness on the matter - maybe he still harbors the attention a few giant Queen of Hearts would give him on a saturday evening
