  1. The Old Haggard Punk Woman may be an absolute tot but has heard directly from the charity that they did not receive a donation from Wifebeater or any other individual and would not have accepted it in any case. So it was most certainly a lie.
  2. Hey, I didn't think the shite I was spouting mattered either but you all proved me wrong! The fact that you're getting your knickers in a twist enough to bother responding en masse to my posts tells me that what I say matters. A lot. Result!
  3. Yawn! Jake, Jake you take this all too personally. Who's advocating the use of legislation? Not me, that's for sure. I'm merely pointing out the possible consequences of your actions. And, Teabags, it goes without saying that this applies to anarcho punk bands too - nothing like stating the obvious! And while we're at it - I want names and addresses of all the people we've put off the punk scene! I'm guessing that all the bands Duane and I put on, big and small and all the young punks we've encouraged and still write to might find this a little hard to swallow. What Jake seems to forget is that, were it not for Bloodshot and Aktifist taking him under their respective wings and Dave writing to him, Jake would still be a pariah in the punk scene and the only reason it all turned so sour is that Aktifist's bassist turned him down! 'Nuff said! The militant dinosaur & decrepit has-been :-)
  4. I'd be very careful with the accusations if I were you....
  5. Let's be clear about this. Wifebeater did NOT donate the money they raised to Grampian Women's Aid as they said. GWA have received no donation from Wifebeater or any other individual in the year since the gig and they would not have accepted a donation from a band of that name anyway. Seems to me this board may have been used to perpetrate fraud/ obtaining money by deception so let's not hear the GWA 'donation' held up as proof of 'irony' please.
  6. Let's cut the petty insults and endless bleating about free speech and look at the facts. The hapless goons on this thread that supported Wifebeater unwittingly gave them enough rope to hang themselves. Unfortunately for them, legislation exists to prosecute those accused of inciting hatred towards ANY section of society and whether you like it or not, deriding women and being seen to mock the issues around domestic abuse, not to mention going as far as to advocate the merits of a particular weapon to beat a woman go a long way towards that charge regardless of the claim that it's just meant to wind people up. So egging the band on has actually led them to the point where the authorities are taking a very close interest in what's going on with the potential to lead to criminal charges. Doesn't matter what anyone says on here, that will be decided by the police if they get involved. Taking the content off the web is, i'm guessing, shutting the stable door way after the horse has bolted. And in case you're also unaware, under the Licensing Board's Gender Equality Scheme anyone putting on gigs where the material is in contravention of the stated principles of the scheme can and will lose their license. The council doesn't have any truck with 'irony'. So, Exposure @ Lemon Tree you have jeopardised the future funding and licensing of the Lemon Tree. How does it feel to wield such power through ignorance? This is a public forum not a private club and as such your comments will have been noted. I'd be astonished if your suggestion was actually supported by the Lemon Tree's management. Cue backlash/sexist insults/threats/obscenities/dismal attempts at eloquence* *delete as approriate but bear this in mind a) the more you insult me the more I take it as a resounding endorsement of my character and b) your next post could be the proof the police need to charge your friends with incitement to hatred. Go for it....
  7. Or did he walk into a door? Wasn't his wife that kicked his head in by any chance?
  8. There's one for sale in Better Read bookshop in Ellon for 30. It needs a little repair but it's not a major undertaking. Hope this helps.
  9. Yes, Soundian. I think we've got that now. It wasn't me that spoke about looking for 'Aberdeen based bands' in the first place, was it??? But thanks for explaining it so well on his behalf.
  10. I understand perfectly. G of F didn't have the courtesy to tell a band he didn't think they were suitable for the gig, thereby causing confusion. Not important to me so chill, merely an observation that a bit of honesty would have been helpful.
  11. That being the case he should have been completely upfront instead of spouting a heap of rubbish about bands needing to be 'Aberdeen -based' which, we have finally established, is a meaningless generalisation. I'm quite sure most bands would appreciate a clear and honest response from a promoter rather than 'fudge'.
  12. So the issue isn't the geography at all then? 'Aberdeen-based' is irrelevant if an out of town band has a loyal following that will travel? I see what you're getting at with regard to bums on seats but putting it in terms of being 'Aberdeen-based' is largely irrelevant and misleading 'cos if the Aberdeen-based band has no myspace friends they're not getting the fudge gig either.
  13. So can you tell us exactly where your cut off point is just so we're all clear on this? Westhill? Bridge of Don? Stonehaven? Or are you going strictly by Council boundaries? What if half of a band is from city and half from 'shire? What if 'shire band rehearses in Aberdeen? Or vice versa.
  14. Wow, that sounds good. Also been offered a Metal Muff so things are looking up!
  15. I haven't been in town yet. It's a good looking bit of kit though!
  16. I use a Marshall Valvestate 8080 on the OD2 channel without a pedal but, like I say, when going through an unfamiliar amp i'd need a pedal 'cos I don't want to be f***ing about with the settings on an amp I don't know.
  17. Thank you. I'll check out that link. So I guess the advice is to try them out if possible (unless anyone knows of the pedal that will make us sound like Doom?)
  18. True. It's a pishy little amount to them :-)
  19. Someone else suggested I do that but wasn't sure if R n B would think it a bloody cheek. Plus it's 20 cheaper at Amazon so i'd feel guilty trying it out but not buying.
  20. Thanks. I'd prefer more grind than fizz. The guy in R n B said the ML-2 has a very distinctive sound. Think I do need heavier strings though - never thought about that. It's a CSL Les Paul copy from the 70's and I have the little switch thing at the top up so I get a heavier sound from the pickups.
  21. I guess not, if there's one that's more brutal. Just like the toughness of the construction. You can stamp on it with a para boot & not have it fall to pieces
  22. I had a Boss HM-2 and was wondering which of the current Boss pedals might adequately replace it for the most brutal sound possible. I've narrowed it down to the Metal Zone MT-2, Metal Core ML-2 or the Mega Distortion MD-2 but would appreciate comments from anyone with experience of these pedals. Currently using a Shredmaster but it's just not heavy enough. Amp is a Marshall Valvestate 8080 Combo which has a brilliant OD2 channel but need a pedal for when i'm not using my own amp. I read the other thread on distortion pedals and found it interesting but would like to pin down which Boss would be best for me. BTW, i'm not a muso so i haven't a clue what bottom end is to work it out from the descriptions. Anyone care to enlighten me as i'm crap at technical terms? Thanks.
