  1. In 2007 Aberdeen has seen Rob Tissera, Tidy Boys, Erol Alkan, Scratch Perverts, Slam etc. Don't think we can complain about a lack of decent djs in the north-east. Would have liked Pendulum to come but you can't have everything. Energy Promotions have a new venue so hopefully they get more decent acts up. My main gripe about the dj scene in aberdeen is it doesn't really exist outwith Kef and Snafu. They aren't really the types of places you want to go every week either. I don't see why places like Liquid can't try and be a bit more diverse/creative and include decent djs and acts. On the rare occasion I go these days all they play is bloody Kate Nash and the killers. Don't other liquids across the UK play proper djs?
  2. The tracklist posted a couple of pages back looks quality.. Most of the bands like Rocket From the Crypt, Smashing Pumpkins etc are great even now. Why did they have to turn the place into a cheesy pop hell hole? Even if they played proper dance tunes I might go now and then. Shame I was too young to go when it as around.
  3. I was thinking about going to this. Which of the mondays will actually be there? Is it Bez that djs? They probably aren't really that great at dj'ing but it would be worth seeing.
  4. Maybe because I'm taking the piss? o_O It's a reference to a Saturday night Live sketch...
  5. sorry for the english above...i think i was still a bit pished when i left that comment! But yes, they are a horrendous, awful band.
  6. I used to like them, before their debut album was released. I saw them the first time they played T in the Park and my thoughts were exactly like yours above. their performances barely differ from the studio recordings. There's no energy, creativity, banter etc. Compare that to someone like Ian Brown who came last week and gave plenty banter and even finished his set by combining the vocals of one song with the music of another. the Arctic Monkeys demos were better. Their pals Milburn had very good demos as well. Appalling LP though.
  7. I could of told you that before you went. Awful band
  8. Bloody magnificent last night. I haven't really slept since last night and am still fairly wasted to be honest, great night.t
  9. I don't like criticising other people's music tastes on here as we're all individuals but this bands are absolutely horrendous awful.
  10. Some of the festivals have already announced some pretty decent acts. Isle of White has Sex Pistols, Iggy and the stooges, Ian Brown, Police (not a fan but big band) etc. this year the T lineup was appalling. Not sure if i'll go back. Queens of the Stone Age, Ocean Colour Scene and Babyshambles were the only bands I was really interested in.
  11. What exactly is casual and ned wear? Coming in with a tracksuit and burberry scarf haha?
  12. They seemed to go from being a half decent band into a lame version of Less than Jake meets New Found Glory.
  13. Thanks to Stripey for introducing me to Noisia. Been listening to them quite a bit tonight.
  14. What do you mean, What? o_O It's like the size of a toilet (smells like one too ). Where do the crowd stand? It's a nightmare trying to get a drink at the bar on a normal night without their being a live band.
  15. A gig at Exodus? You can barely breathe in there as it is!
  16. Anyone else going to see Erol Alkan on Friday? Listened to a few of his podcasts and he's probably not my usual type of dj but he's good nonetheless. Sounds pretty techno(ish) and he mixes some decent tunes. Anyway, what time is he expected to come on? Probably half 11/12? And is there any dress code for Snafu? OK to wear trainers?
  17. I'm certainly no connoisseur of drum and bass and possibly fall into the 'lowest common denominator pillhead dancefloor pish' bracket that was refered to previously but I do like Andy C's mixes. As for Pendulum I like a few of their tracks but the album isn't that great. I like 'The Qemists' as well.
  18. I live next to the bloody things as well. They look like Jenga blocks. PS - Is The Complete Stone Roses cancelled?
  19. All DPT did was rehash The Libertines though. They're a poor version of them. Babyshambles are more experimental. Oh and having heard every song Doherty has ever put on the web, 'Gang Of Gin' is by far his best work lyrically. In my opinion of course. what Doherty gets up to is of absolutely no interest to me, if it doesn't concern music. I stay the hell away from NME and I don't read any newspapers. So I couldn't care what bird he's shagging or what his latest arrest is for. Try to be objective people. His music is very good and the latest Babyshambles album is bloody great, both musically and lyrically.
  20. nothing NME do can surprise me quite frankly. Somebody sent me a link to 'The Wombats' album review. They started the review off by saying something along the lines of how The Wombats are going against the grain because the current indie crowd write very deep and political lyrics o_O. And apparently when the Beatles were around lyrics only tended to be little songs about girls they fancied o_Oo_Oo_O. Whoever said that must be at the windup. Anyway, yes they have stitched him up. It's quite appalling really but as I say, not surprising. What's ironic is this is a guy who's songs are largely devoted to supporting causes and groups. Why don't the NME go and ask some kids out of The Enemy or the Arctic Monkeys what their view on immigration is ?(. They might get some funny answers then... It had absolutely nothing to do with the context of the interview though and the way they kept plugging their NME against racism campaign was pathetic. Morrissey only spoke common sense. It's pretty bloody clear that Britain as a country is losing it's identity day by day. I mean in Dundee it's estimated 1/7 people are now Polish ffs. To be honest though they're so pathetic that I'm beyond bothered about what they have to say. there's enough clueless left wing apologists in the world for me to worry about
  21. Dirty Pretty Things rule o_Oo_Oo_O ? did I see that right? The same Dirty Pretty Things who had next to no festival offers and released a very disappointing debut album? I'm a big Carl Barat fan but without Doherty his music seems pretty limited to be honest. A couple of tracks were quick and catchy but got boring very quickly. For me the highlight of the album was the raw energy in the 'You fucking Love it' intro . there's not a lot that rules about DPT though!
  22. what utter shite. So Gang of Gin, You Talk, Killamangiro, fuck Forever etc ain't great songs? He's a genius or at least bloody clever considering the amount of A*'s he got at school. His lyrics are also very deep and meaningful and I think he has a pretty good voice. His songs actually have relevance in modern society. they examine a lot of important issues and they make witty observations of all things British. Compare that with the majority of shit that clogs up mainstream British rock/indie. Eg Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys etc.
  23. Just wondered what clubs you all go to atm? I'm only 20 and I don't really bother going to clubs anymore to be honest. Maybe Exodus at the weekend but it's a glorified toilet. Aberdeen just doesn't really seem to have any good ones. I'll go to see dj's at kef and Snafu like Erol Alkan and the Scratch Perverts. but both these clubs are pretty small and not the type of places I'd go every week. I used to go to the likes of Liquid a lot but they're horrendous. Don't get me started on dross like Priory, Pearl 'Harbour' Lounge, Espionage (haven't been there in years and never will again) etc etc. All they play is crap pop music, r n b and such like. Why can't there be mainstream clubs which play trance, hard house, drum and bass etc? Or even rock, indie, punk etc. Budz bar may not have been to everyones taste but at least they were (or at least energy promotions) attracting some great dj's every single weekend. I suppose there's Moshulu but I just seem to have been going there too much in the past few years. It always seems the same and it's a middle aged headbanging cock fest. Tunnels in fairness is a decent venue and get's some good dj's. Again it's often quiet though.
