  1. Origin on Market street opened a few weeks ago, It seems quite nice inside, dont be put off because it is on market street

Snafu is also a good place to go

Was going to go but someone said it's basically like the pelican and full of minks. Mind you, I went to drum and budz bar on occasion back in the day so can't really be too much of a snob...:D. I agree snafus pretty good but it's a place I'd only go now and then. Drinks and very expensive for one thing and if there's not a decent dj on it's pretty confined and dull (although after midnight at the weekend pretty much everywhere in town is expensive). Last time I went all I did was sit on a couch. When I was Erol Alkan there though it was crazy.

  2. moshulu bores the hell out of me now. I went a couple of weeks ago and from what I can remember it was crap. I used to quite like being hammered and just chilling in the back room with cocktails but it looked like some sort of store room the last time I was there. The lighting had gone, fuck all people were there, the tunes were crap and half the tables had gone. Oh and to hell with the main part of Moshulu, although I've had many a wasted night bouncing around to pendulum and er pantera. To be honest I hate every last club in Aberdeen, maybe with the exception of snafu on occasion if a decent dj is playing like erol alkan or vitalic. Aberdeen has an absolutely dire night life. Usually at the weekends I just end up going to mates flats to get pished.

Kef was one place I went to a lot but c'est la vie. Does nobody in Aberdeen like dance music or something (I'm not just talking about trance, house, drum n bass etc but also more comercially successful electro stuff like Hot chip, LCD soundsystem etc)? Is there really a demand for listening to terrible commerical pish? Do people actually enjoy going to a hell hole like priory and listening to Beyonce for the millionth time?

I'm not even 21 ffs and I feel like an old man, I HATE ABERDEEN!

  3. I can see this game fucking with my uni exams .

On the plus side I was pretty lucky today. I hadn't bothered pre-ordering GTA due to lazyness and also the fact my xbox was away for repair. then unexpectedly my xbox arrived back today so at 3PM today I phoned ASDA and got the last copy . Picked it up just now and the map looks bloody huge.

  4. Just for fun why don't we Compose a Exodus playlist?

I'd love to hear what all these folk who don't go there would play. Conservative estimates would put most songs at 4 minutes so that is about 45 songs between 11 and 2.

Maybe just call it 40 songs to round it off.

    Go!

I'll maybe do that later if I have time. But the last night ever at Kef had a bloody fantastic setlist:

Podcast 8 FreestyleMonkeyMusic (Club Set) Recorded Live at last Ever Night @ KEF

  5. wtf? why is everyone up the tunnels ass? the tunnels fucking sucks and sounds shite. it lacks any sort of vibe or soul........:down::down::down::down::down::down:

seriously............have any of you's actually been to a good live music venue before ???????????? ?(

Compared to Glasgow venus it's maybe not the best in the world but it's probably my favourite one in Aberdeen. There is a quality mix of music.

  6. Weirdly, this is the one point that winds me up the most on this thread so far. It's. Not. A. Motown. Night. Maybe about 10% of the stuff I play on Tuesdays is a product of Berry Gordy's Detroit-based label. There's lots more going on on that night than Motown.

So there. :p It's my favourite night too, although they're all wonderful in their own way.

As for not playing The Music or Coxon (Joy Division and Prodigy still get played all the time), time moves on. Tastes change. I highly doubt anyone would dance to The Music these days, given that they haven't released anything of worth for about five years. They were a band of their time, and that's where they should stay. Coxon gets dusted off occasionally, but there's so much more material in that vein that's more contemporary and relevant to the clientele today that it only happens on special occasions.

If I was in charge of the music at Exo I'd be playing a decent mix of electro (Daft Punk, Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Justice, Soulwax etc) , alternative rock etc. Whenever I'm in the music just sounds terrible. At least Aberdeen still has Snafu and Tunnels I guess...

PS - Regarding the alternative rock played, it doesn't seem very alternative. Correct me if I'm wrong but it usually sounds like a rundown of the NME top 20. Some of it's good but the majority like the View, Arctic Monkeys etc is atrocious. The Wombats seem to get played a lot in Exo as well and they're bloody dire.

  7. Exo was my main Friday night haunt for many a year but I've given up on it these days. I got sick of having to be in by 11.30 at the weekend or face queueing for an hour, I got sick of standing outside waiting for one to come out so one can go in, sick of being crushed inside like sardines in a tin can, sick of having to queue 6 deep at the bar and waiting half an hour to get a drink, sick of getting bashed into by people just shoving their way through the crowd with no regard for anyone else. And this: http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/other-clubs-venues/40271-bouncers-exodus.html

was the final straw. I couldn't give a fuck about the place these days, it can burn down for all I care.

They really need to sort out the bar upstairs. On a busy night you can't get served without some little emo twat elbowing you in the hips. I also notice whenever I'm fairly sober in there that it smells a bit 'funky'. Putting the toilets right next to the bar doesn't help.

  8. I was reading through an old setlist and a lot of it was terrific. Full of the likes of The Music, Joy Division, Prodigy, Graham Coxon etc. What's happened now? Whenever I go to Exodus now the music seems awful. Is there a particular night where the musics good? Last time I enjoyed any music in Exodus was on a Tuesday when it was a 60's night.

  9. Yeah, that's so true dude!

If only we could all have the sense to go on a music message board and post under the name of "Ian Brown".

Then things would suely be better.

No, I think everyone else would get an error message telling them the name's been taken?

  10. Is it not possible that Mogwai just don't want to play in Aberdeen? It's not exactly the greatest place in the world to play in. A lot of people seem to be choosing the ironworks instead of Aberdeen . Mogwai are the type of band who just don't seem to come to Aberdeen.
