    Ricky Gervais

yass! I do not want her tunnel, bandied about this office, willy.... nilly.
  2. This was at the top of the page on my browser, and the first thing I thought was "Christ, we're really going back to basics here!"
  3. It's not really better in terms of "frequency and accessibility" of live action though is it? e.g. Is it easier for a Man Utd "supporter" in Aberdeen to go see Man Utd than to go see Aberdeen? No, clearly. Is it easier for them to sit in the house and watch Man Utd than it would be to go see Aberdeen live? Not really. Is it cheaper? Not really (Sky subscription, Setanta subscription, MUTV subscription etc). Is it warmer to stay in the house? Yes. Is the football better? Yes. Is the atmosphere the same as at a live match? Absolutely not.
  4. Word. Quoted for utter truth.
  5. LOL. p.s. I am imagining Maxis head exploding right now.
  6. Yeah, because everyone'd MUCH rather watch some shitey repeats of Emmerdale than a football match between two teams they don't support. Oh hang on, sport is unpredictable and can be entertaining EVEN IF you don't have a vested interest in either of the teams playing. Easy to forget that isn't it? And in fact, even if you're a Scottish Neaderthal, sorry Nationalist, then surely you wouldn't mind watching an England game in case they get pumped off Bulgaria or something and you can jeer and hoot about Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, etc etc? At least until "we" get pumped off San Marino or Lichtenstein or some other bunch of posties and sparkies.
  7. mmm i want! anyone wanna buy a boogie 4x12?

    Wind-up?

    Whit? It was real?!

    Wind-up?

I hope this is true, but not because I want wifebeater banned from playing live, quite the opposite. You's could ride the crest of a wave of infamy and notoriety, people could play your CD in rebellion like "Anarchy in the UK" never happened.
  10. This is still for sale, and I've dropped the price to 100, if anyone is interested.
  11. Elixir or D'Addario 9-42 all the way, because 9 is the best and most playable gauge for a 25.5" scale length g- tar (particularly one with a Floyd Rose), Elixirs are class and last literally months, D'Addarios have a nice smooth feel and the fact they are foil wrapped and airtight means they can't get the chance to oxidise and rust till you put them on the guitar at least! p.s. If I had a Les Paul/ SG/ other 24.75" guitar it'd be tens. p.p.s. The above information is for standard tuning/ Drop D. When I used to detune my guitars, I'd work off the loosely enforced rule that for each semitone I downtuned I'd go up one gauge of string. E.g. E Standard down to E flat Standard would be a move from .009- .042 up to .010- .046. A further move down to D Standard would change the necessary gauge to .011- .048/ .049. This rule DEFINITELY helps when a Floyd is involved; those things do NOT like hybrid gauges (9-46, 10-52 etc).
  12. He fell over at Ibrox and scored the resultant penalty, against us. If that counts?
  13. After a fashion yes, as "Kenny's Music" although the stock, layout and half the staff are totally different to what it was when it was Sound Control. Plus I don't work there, if that's what you're thinking. Wasn't quite a management buyout, kinda complicated, but somewhere along those lines.
  14. Nah, neither! I used to work in Sound Control though, so do have some idea about the workings of the machine. Not least because we never had any/ enough Gibsons, and did deal with a lot of customers from Aberdeen and beyond who were willing to travel to find the gear/ advice/ range they wanted.
  15. There are six million human beings in Scotland; not all of them are guitarists, less still guitarists serious enough to spend serious dough on an instrument. The ones that are serious don't mind travelling a wee bit to get a good instrument/ choice, in my experience. Particularly those from Aberdeen/ further north. I know that, believe me. However, half this thread is about buying on the 'net; where there is extreme "buy without try". The name is already prestigious enough that people seek it out. The idea of having a couple of Scottish Gibson supercentres rather than a bunch of part- timers organised by a shambles of a farce like Rosetti makes a huge amount of sense. That's possible, although the concerns about the credit crunch will be offset by "Gibbo" lovers' excitement at getting to try a bunch of interesting, unusual (?) and brand new guitars all in the one place, for the first time in.... years? And instruments are one of those curious things where people will always somehow find/ make/ steal/ borrow the means to get the one they want. Fact.
  16. I wouldn't have thought Gibson would regret choosing select dealerships to stock their guitars, if you call that nonsense; it protects their margins and the integrity of the brand (through preventing ridiculous price matching/ trashing, which all retailers state they're dead against even though many do it anyway), ensures a sizeable and impressive stocking profile in each store that is a dealership, as well as stipulating that the dealer must have a good RANGE of their products in stock at any one time, which surely no punter would complain about. If anything it'll make finding a quality Gibson guitar easier; you'll know where to go, and that there'll be a decent range to choose from. You'll also know that if you have to order a guitar, the dealer will be doing it directly from the manufacturer, essentially cutting out the "middle man" (everyone hates a middle man, don't they?). I wouldn't buy a Gibson, but that's because I don't think they represent good value for money these days and they don't suit my playing style. But they do suit some people; those people (assuming they actually want to buy guitars and not just run their...... fingers on the internet) stand to gain from this new position. And as for the penny pinchers; doesn't anyone who's concerned about saving money just go to America to buy their Gibson for a fraction of the the price it would be here anyway?
  17. smart! much is $20 these days, about 90 quid?
  18. Those bloody intellectuals eh. What do they know?
  19. Is it too cynical to have a niggling belief that it could all be an elaborate publicity stunt?
