  1. The entirety of Winter of Mixed Drinks is now streaming on myspace, for anyone that hasn't heard. I don't know what happened to setting a release date, then releasing the album on that date, but hey. Must be a 21st Century thing.
  2. Haha, Celtic are unbelievable rotten at the back. Fantastic!
  3. BBC News - Man jailed for raping woman, 86, at Bradford care home Sometimes there just aren't words.
  4. The mighty Pars have snapped up Gary Mason on a free transfer; one of our better players from the Tango years. Great memories of him from the SPL days, cup runs, and in particular that goal against Dundee Utd to keep us up (first time round). Let's hope he hasn't become geesh in the interim. It'll be good to have the option a midfielder with a pair of bollocks in the middle of the park. The amusing thing is he left in 2007 because he was too good for the 1st division...
  5. Oh, and I saw Brothers at the cinema. It was okay, but I really want to see the Norweigan original now because it's apparently way better. Some of the scenes were genuinely gripping, but it was a bit obvious and ham-fisted in places. Whoever gave Tobey MacGuire the lead role should be shot. Terrible casting. 6/10
  6. Trying to catch up on some classics, so I watched Raging Bull Thought this was very good. The best Scorcese film I've seen, and it worked really well in black and white. I'm a total De Niro fanboy.
  7. Pretty nice stuff, I've heard the name before but never the tunes. I like the instrumentation, and there's some really good songs in there. Sort of reminds me of A Camp.
  8. You should have delivered it in true Telecaster Sam style... I had a wee listen and they seem talonted enough. They seem to have ruffled some feathers around here though.
  9. I farkin' love There Will Be Fireworks and Farewell Singapore. Lions.Chase.Tigers are decent too. I shall aim to get up for this.
  10. Nah, Aiden McGeady on Greg Ross. That is scary.
  11. Baws. Debut against the Pars maybe? I'll put a tenner on him scoring a hat trick.
  12. I think the main objection is that you claimed Lafferty was the best target man in the SPL. He is not.
  13. Ha! You've got to be kidding, right? The boy is total geesh. Just because he's tall and a total thug doesn't make him a good target man. He has been largely woeful for Rangers, and he only really gets a game because thay have so many injuries. Even if you are a fan of his, you've got to admit he's basically achieved nothing at Rangers, and therefore cannot be considered the best target man in the SPL.
  14. Looking for a small valve amp just for home practice. Something like a Fender Champion 600, Epiphone Valve Junior or mebbe even an Orange AD5. Cash awaits. Cheers
  15. Rugby Park = Theatre of Dreams
  16. Methinks the man doth protest too much
  17. Just away to the Stenny game/replay/rematch. Gulp.
  18. Headlight (2003 - present) I quite fancy getting this story down, so I apologise for the length. Headlight is/was essentially about 4 different bands, but for some reason the name has always stayed. Started out as an acoustic two-piece with my mate Ben when we were both about 15. We wrote some songs about girls and some songs about dying, as you do when you're 15. We released an EP that we recorded at the Foyer. It was awful. Eventually we cobbled together a 'band', consisting of my then girlfriend's brother Ewan on bass and one of our mates, Fraser, on keyboard. These were the only people we knew that played instruments so it's amazing that we also got on pretty well. Ben moved on to the drums. We probably should have changed the name at this point, because we started to play ridiculously upbeat pop songs. The Foyer were brilliant for us, we got to play some cool gigs at the Lemon Tree and learnt a bit more about music in general. With hindsight, we were still not very good though. My elder brother Jamie saw us at a gig and decided he wanted a piece of the pie. This was good, as he was actually a drummer. Ben moved on to the bass for a bit, before eventually leaving the band. We released a second EP, entitled 'Half Truth', which was a blend of pop and rock, with a few rock ballads thrown in for good measure. The recording quality is truly awful, but I'm quite proud of some of the songs on there. Particularly In the End, which I maintain is the best pop song of all time. Eventually, we realised we should really have a bassist. We got one in the shape of Mitch Bain, who is a true hero in every sense of the word. I can't imagine Headlight without him now. This resulted in us becoming a lot better, but because I live in Glasgow we could never practice as much as we wanted and were thus a little rough around the edges. At this point we were playing piano-driven rock. Played some quality shows with the likes of Little Comets, De Rosa, and (bizarrely) Iglu & Hartly. Our keyboard player was away with work at the last minute for our appearance at the Wizard Festival, so we had about a week to cobble together a set for that gig sans keyboard. This was pretty difficult for a keyboard-led band. We wrote two songs the night before, and played them to a rammed tent the next day. It was brilliant. There was a wee bit of internal conflict a few months ago, which resulted in our keyboardist leaving a rehearsal. We haven't seen him since. Assuming he didn't want to be in the band anymore, we started to hone the set we played at Wizard. We played the best gig of our lives with A Genuine Freakshow and our issues with timing and accuracy all but disappeared with one less instrument to worry about. Now we have taken a wee break from gigging, but are returning in March to play with A Genuine Freakshow again. The set will be about 60% brand new, 40% reworked I think. We are terrible excited about it. The sound is a lot louder and more abrasive, but the focus on simpleness and melody is still there. As I say, we should probably change the name of the band, but we quite like it so it'll no doubt stay. Should have a mastered copy of our newest song soon, which we'll stick on myspace. It'd be nice to hear your comments . There is still no way we can play as often as we'd like to because of the logistical issue, but we're all really enjoying it. I'd love to record an album before we go our separate ways. Phew.
  19. Cheated? Really? Why would you actively decide to field a player you knew was suspended in a game you'd already won? Don't be ridiculous.
  20. Yassssssssssssssssssssss You sir, are incorrect. It was the decision that should have been made in the first instance. For all the club have made a mighty embarassing hash of things, the original punishment was not proportional to the crime. There is absolutely no precedent for throwing a side out of the tournament for fielding an inelegible player. Indeed, the precedent is very much a replay and a fine. Brechin were kicked out a few years ago, but they fielded TWO inelegible players and tried to get away with their error. I think the appeal has taken into account the relative unimportance of the other 'breaches' that the club made. There is not a chance in hell that the SFA would have picked up on the under 21 issue if the Woods debacle hadn't brought attention to the game. The teamsheet was ammended 50 minutes before the game began, with the approval of both Stenny and the referee. Clearly not an issue, and the kind of 'rule-breaking' that goes on across the nation every other week. The fact we were 4-0 up when the offending right back came on (who had a crap game, by the way) might have had some bearing on the result of the appeal, too. The vast majority of the press and an array of prominent figures in Scottish football spoke out against the original sentence: Kenny Clarke, Billy Dodds, Pat Nevin and Tam Cowan to name a few. The club made a horrendous error, which will cost us thirty grand and a replay of a game we won 7-1. That is a fair punishment. To get horsed out of the cup for an honest administrative error is draconian at best, and the result of the appeal reflects this. For that absolute cretin Smith to say the 'integrity of the Scottish Cup' was at stake whilst chucking out a side that had won their tie 7-1 was a joke. Oh, and hats off to Stenny, who are about the only party to have handled themselves brilliantly throughout the sorry affair. May the best team win the replay.
