  1. Someone snaffled my pedals a few months ago and I'm finally getting round to replacing them. I used to have a Danelectro Daddy-O, which I loved, so if anyone has one I'll snap it up. Otherwise, just looking for a decent overdrive and a decent delay. Something fairly standard I'd imagine, not enough pennies for anything boutique...
  2. King of Doublespeak is just such a good song and I think this recording does it justice. Always thought your stuff worked much better live, but this captures it beautifully. Really, really great stuff. To be honest, I'm not so keen on Silencing the Guns. Not convinced by the song itself and for the production I'd say the vocals are maybe a bit too reverby against the crisp acoustic chords. Just doesn't quite sit right for me, but that's just personal taste I guess. Really looking forward to hearing the album!
  3. I do it all the time. It makes me feel alive.
  4. I've got three crates of the old Punk IPA
  5. Haha, I was at the very least mis-paraphrased!
  6. Em... how? I clearly state that I continued to like them after they became famous, and I continued to like them after they 'changed direction' to a more poppy sound. All of my complaints are about the quality of their recent material, which picks up from the good work of Final Straw but achieves absolutely nothing. It's lazy, it's generic and it's shite. Of course I'm going to be unhappy if one of my favourite bands churn out low-quality music. If they were playing 'Eyes Open' to 16 people at Tunnels on Tuesday night I'd still think it was a terrible stab at stadium rock. ... So... you were just talking out of your arse? I don't mind a bit of debate, but I do mind being misquoted! If you were a journalist, I'd have your head on a plate and your paper sued
  7. Woah, this is cloak and dagger stuff! I can't find the thread but I didn't say Snow Patrol 'sold out'. I don't use that phrase, because it's stupid. I did say Snow Patrol don't make music I like any more, and I did say I think they write terrible, overblown stadium pop songs now. Which in my opinion they do. I also vividly remember acknowledging that Final Straw is a terrific guitar pop album, and probably their best release. That albums is rammed with choruses and singalong melodies, and that's the point you would say they 'sold out', if you were a dick. I did not say that. My beef with them is the albums they have released since that have been sub-par. Really, truly, bad. I'm sure they couldn't give a flying minge-nut if I like them or not, because they have millions of fans and sell millions of records, which they didn't when they were putting out albums like 'Songs for Polar Bears'. Fair play to them. As I say, I was all ears when they changed to a more poppy sound. Final Straw is a terrific pop album. The more recent ones, however, are grey drudgery. I don't dislike the direction per se, I dislike the inherent lack of quality. As an aside, if you 'can't vouch for how much truth there is' in what I said, why are you so up in arms about it? As for Muse, I do think they need to change the record (see what I did there). That's a good few albums of intergalactic-space-explosion-starburst-alien-revolt-implosion stuff, and I find it a bit tiresome. I don't really see how this is linked to the debate. Who said Muse 'sold out'? It certainly wasn't me. It's a sad, cold world if I'm not allowed an opinion on the latest output from one of the biggest bands in the country. This is a pretty weird rant Calum, particularly because I don't even see how these two examples are linked. Or how either of them are linked to the 'selling out' debate. And next time my opinions mortally wound you with their caustic poison, why don't you ask me at the time? It's a bit creepy that you've been sitting on this for months...
  8. I'm struggling to get excited about the prospect of watching football in soulless, pop-up stadia in the middle of a desert, in a mind-blowingly wealthy country that has little cultural - nevermind footballing - heritage. There's little in it for the travelling spectator, little in it for football, but plenty in it in terms of FILTHY LUCRE. That's the only reason there could possibly be for them getting it. Might as well have had it on the moon.
  9. Away to Montrose! Looking forward to a day out away from the usual 1st division venues
  10. We always practice in MV. It's the best price that I know of in Aberdeen (where everywhere is a total rip-off compared to Glasgow), and they give you discounts if you practice there regularly. Good sized rooms and good equipment. I absolutely love the text-booking system, it's great to be able to fire off a text when you're at work or uni or whatever. They've always been good at lending us cables and what have you when we've forgotten them. The only criticisms would be occasionally the mics are baws/broken and we have to go in search of a replacement. Same with the amps on occasion; you go in and there's like one combo guitar amp and a random cab kicking about. We always get sorted with the good stuff in the end when we go and ask for a better mic/amp though, so I guess it's just an organisation thing. As I say, overall I think it's the best place in Aberdeen. Toms is the only real contender, but 15/hr makes me want to weep.
  11. Yeah, it's great thanks. Strangely enough I got it set up a wee while back to get the action a bit higher, sounds like it'd been lowered considerably by the time I got my paws on it. It's amazing the 'ring' you can get out of it through a clean channel. Yum. Although your new guitar isn't too shabby at all...
  12. I'm far from an amp expert, but I've got a Classic 30 and I love it. As you say, it's more than loud enough for gigging. I tend to use the clean channel, which you can get an amazing warm tone out of. If you crank up the volume it breaks up quite nicely into a kinda 'natural' distortion-y sound. I use the built-in reverb quite a bit too, it's quite subtle. Funnily enough, I play your old Nashville Tele through it! Sounds great. It sounds totally huge with humbuckers - I've played Les Paul and an Ibanez Artcore through it and it's capable of being really punchy and loud. Sorry this is in layman's terms, but for what it's worth I've got one and it suits me very well!
  13. Anyone else think there's something of the Phil Quiries about the Greek keeper?
  14. YAAAAAS! Get it up, round and down you. A season of mid-table obscurity beckons for the unholy bin-rakers. Looking forward to away days at Brockvi...sorry, Morriso... sorry, 'The Falkirk Stadium'. All the sweeter because of that total fanny Pressley and his guarantees of SPL football. I'm also delighted that Airdrie finally got relegated, after finishing bottom again I'm behind Cowden for promotion, purely because it'd bring a season of derbies. Plus, we all know how Ayr went as a 'piss-easy away day'...
  15. I don't understand that. Surely his record as a manager at previous clubs is irrelevant? I'm pretty sure Dons fans don't care that he was reasonably successful with Motherwell. The more pressing concern is that he's doing pretty terribly with Aberdeen. Also, someone should probably point out he's the manager, and he's expected to work with the squad he has to try and improve performances. He keeps saying 'wait until next season', which I think would irritate me if I was one of the fans who had kept turning up over the past few months to watch turgid pish. It's ultimately his fault that he hasn't managed to better organise the team in the time he's been there. Poor.
  16. I'll snaffle the tremolo in the event of a deal fall-through!
  17. Nah, get one of these Korg PitchBlack Chromatic Pedal Guitar Tuner | DV247
  18. Aye it's some pedal. My flatmate has one and it's just fantastic. They go for about 100 on ebay these days, that's probably going to be my best bet I think.
  19. Bit of a long shot I know, but if anyone has one of these and would be willing to part with it, please give me a shout.
