5 wins on the bounce, 2 away wins, and a clean sheet yesterday... probably still crumble for the entirety of winter, but it's currently quite enjoyable not to hate myself even more than I already do twice a week.

They're still not going to win the league though are they.

I'm alright with the long descriptive passages, but I find there's some really quick passages which seem to be the exact opposite, lacking context and with dialogue that seems a bit like gibberish, and it leaves me thinking "u wot m8?" so I go and re-read the previous couple of pages leading up to it to see if I've missed something important.

That flowchart is super helpful. I'd read that Mort and Guards, Guards are good starting places and two of the best, so I might skip to those and come back to Colour of Magic when I get a better understanding of the writing style.

Late to this but I've read a lot of Discworld and I'm not a huge fan of the Rincewind and Withces books so I sympathise with Colour of Magic being a bit hard to follow.

Try reading the City Watch series (Guards.Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, Night Watch, Thud!, Snuff).  You don't really need to read every discworld book as long as you read the mini series inside the whole collection in the right order.

After that the Moist Von Lipwig series is great.

  3. Saw a tweet that summed it up well saying you couldn't really tell which team got £120million for finishing 7th in the EPL and the team that got £2million for finishing 2nd in the SPL.

    Good showing from Aberdeen.

Think most Burnley fans thought they'd walk over Aberdeen, like this knob...

  4. Liverpool look really strong on paper.  If they can play like they did second half of last season I think they might actually challenge for the title.

I think Arsenal will be better than expected with Emery in charge.

I think Spurs will miss Top 4.

I'm most interested to see Chelsea playing in Sarri's style and if they can do it.  Also if they'll still have Hazard.

    Looks like a great season.

  5. Loved the playoffs this year.  Finals were going to be a feel good story either way.  Shame it wasn't a longer series though.

Felt like the Wings got a good draft.  Next season is still looking a bit grim though.  Rebuild.

  6. For me it's just the level of optimism and sense of reality in the media is out of control.  I listen to a fair amount of talksport normally at work/on the commute and the pundits have been talking about England as if they are 2008 -2012 Spain the way they've played.

It's not just talksport it's the media in general here whenever a journalist speaks about them they seem to have watched different matches to what I've seen.

I just rather hear them tell it more like it is, I think a lot less people would dislike them if they didn't always talk about them as the second coming.  In reality it's been a good performance so far with a lot of luck from the draw.

  7. Four more days of listening to media and pundits tell us how great England have played.  Despite beating Tunisia, Panama, losing to Belgium and squeaking past Colombia.  Two goals from open play against the teams they've played is pathetic.

They're talking about Harry Kane setting the world on fire, he's had 3 penalties and a goal come off the back of his heel he had no idea about.  Glenn Hoddle was about crying when he was talking about Kane's play.

I don't even hate the players just the culture and media that surround the team.

This is the worst.  Great world cup though.

I just came 2nd of 89 players. 3 kills. I'm distraught. Winner knew where I was cos I'd killed the 3rd place guy. Ugh.

Have you done a win yet?

I had a great win where I killed 5 of the final six, it was over a river for the small zones, I killed the last guy on my side then had to move over to their side because of the zone.  I just played it in the water and popped out guerrilla style to kill all the remaining guys.  So good.  Helps so much if you are silenced getting into the small zones.

  9. Kroenke is just an awful owner, see what he's done with the SL/LA Rams over the last few years.  He really doesn't care as long as the team is making him money.

It seems like the whole club is just in this melancholy state where they don't expect themselves to do anything.

They go through the motions and finish top 4, get out of the group in the champions league, have a decent run in one of the domestic cups (but if it's the League cup they don't try and win it like other clubs do when they get to the quarters/semis).  Then the season closes a "big" player leaves, replacements are bought who are good but not in that elite level and then they repeat this for another year.  No one expects the players that come in to really take them to another level.

Winning FA cups back to back a couple of years ago would be good normally but Arsenal take a pasting from the media even for that.  Not a real trophy anymore etc.  It doesn't seem to matter anymore.  Seems like they need Wenger to leave just so the fans, the club and the media will think about them differently.  It seems like the attitude of Arsenal being failures has really started to ingrain itself in the club.

Captain, you surely didn't read the Rebus novels out of order?! I couldn't handle that!

I seem to read a lot of trashy fiction...

Oddly, it appears to have worked.

    14-2. Here we go.

Yeah and you should get a win next week anyway...

Watched a whole Texans game for the first time this year.  I know Brocks not been great but Jesus, his throws were all over the place.  So many high throws.

One of the guys in our league picked up Gronk, Rodgers and Newton before he'd even picked an RB. So I did better than him, right?

Who did he get at RB in the end?

Top WR/TE/QBs are generally harder to find than RBs nowadays, especially with RBs sharing time so much.

This sort of shit upset me about our campaign to abject failure this season. Same as when we binned off Aidan Connolly who looked like GMS in his first season, a lot of promise but a bit rough around the edges. And Charlie Telfer, pretty decent young midfielder, left to languish on the bench and turned into a fat wee workshy loaf who ended up getting punted out to Livingston on loan.

I blame Paatelainen and his lets play 6 defenders approach to playing football.

Not to mention Murray who despite being extremely raw will just run and work until he falls over but barely featured (maybe 5 minutes when we were already 2/3 nil down).  Since we binned Mixu he's done just that and got a bunch of goals.

As you said Connolly shouldn't have been let go although he was extremely weak but the club should have been able to develop him physically and I have no idea what Telfer did to get stuck on the bench.

On Muirhead at the time it felt like a panic buy.  That money was meant to get Scott Allen after the ridiculous sales to Celtic but Thompson wouldn't pay up and Hibs knew what they had so he bought Muirhead instead.
