  1. I doubt that would be a consideration to those selecting the team though. With the strikers available England should be more than capable of getting through the groups and they should probably be expecting to do so. The issue will be in taking Rooney do they take an extra striker on the chance they have injuries during the group stages and his red card has certainly given them a selection problem in choosing the quantity of players to take in each area of the pitch. He'd still be one of the first names on my squad list for the reason of having a world class player in the team for the knockout stages of the tournament - basically where it is won or lost. England will be going to Ukraine/Poland with the aim of winning the competition so I'm sure that is what the team will be selected for.
  2. Well that was fun! Could have been several more considering the saves their keeper made, hitting the woodwork and even missing a couple of decent chances. I particularly enjoyed how we passed our way out of trouble rather than thumping it long, in fact we hardly switched to long balls out of defence at all. Vernon and Milsom were the standouts for me tonight although a good all-round team performance. We really need to make that performance worthwhile by doing it again in the next few games and picking up points. But for the meantime, COYR!
  3. I don't think it is a case of having to regulate journalists to be honest. It would be more along the lines of trying to regulate players/agents/directors who are trying to engineer transfers and come down on them. Really, how this would be judged and regulated would be nigh on impossible but I found it positive there were some authorities getting involved in the Tevez debacle. A hefty ban would be nice but I'm sure an appeal would be successful. Journo's will ask questions all day long and they are entitled to I guess but if a player signs a deal it isn't on that they can act like a twat to get out of it and devalue the deal they signed. Perfectly honest though, you're right though as the power is with agents and players but in an ideal world this wouldn't be the case.
  4. I hope this Tevez saga can set a precedent to players who reckon they can act like a dickhead to get their own way. It looks like the footballing authorities are keen to get involved and it would be good to see some regulations put in place to ensure contracts are worth something. Same goes for teams, the Fabregas situation with Barca and their players constantly giving interviews about him when he was an Arsenal player was a farce. It all seems to easy for players to engineer a move or teams to unsettle an individual and turn their heads.
  5. Last gig for me was Arcade Fire at Edinburgh Castle. Brilliant setting for a gig and a really good live band so enjoyed this one a lot. Bit of an odd crowd mind you as it took a while for people to get into it and was a bit flat to begin with. The fact there was no bars probably didn't help. I was at JeW at the Corn Exchange as well, first time I saw them and was well impressed.
  6. If you haven't already done so you should read a book called Forza Italia. An Irish journalist wrote it about his move to Italy to report on football and it's got some excellent stories about the Serie A.
  7. Balls, I forgot about that one. I was probably trying to maintain some musical integrity and missing it out.
  8. Played with The Fire and I from Bathgate before and they are just bass and drums. Some decent songs and rather lively onstage.
  9. First gig I attended - Blur at the SECC in 1995 on the Great Escape tour. Not long after the whole Blur / Oasis thing kicked off and they were on fine form that night. Best gig I attended - Radiohead at the Dundee Caird Hall, 1996 or 1997. They played an absolute blinder that night and it was a lively crowd. They were my favourite band anyway but that gig back it up. Special mention for Sigur Ros at the Connect Festival as well. Worst gig I attended - A couple of contenders. Ian Brown at the AECC was the first time I ever walked out of a gig early. The second time was last summer at Belladrum when Badly Drawn Boy acted like a total bellend. He threw a pissy fit as his sound on stage wasn't very good refused to play. Plugged in his ipod and put on Silent Sigh and told the crowd, "There you go, this is the only one you came along to hear anyway." First gig I played - At the Tunnels with Static in the City. None of us had really played gigs before and were a bit nervous about it and pretty much everyone we told came down so we had a decent crowd to play to. It was basically a roomful of our pals but was a good start. Best gig I have played - At the Liquid Rooms for T Break showcases with Static in the City. A cracking venue to play and a really professional set up for the occasion. Freakin' hot though and I remember getting sweat in my eyes during our last song and pulling weird faces as a result. Worst gig I have played - The one I really didn't like was a Snafu gig with The Scandal Extracts where everything seemed to go wrong. It was completely our own fault to be honest as we tried shifting things around on stage during soundcheck to give ourselves a bit more room which resulted in me not being able to hear my bass and one of our amps breaking down. So we shifted everything back which proceeded to waste a lot of time getting set up. We also hadn't been able to practice much in the lead up to the gig so we made plenty of major mistakes. Our singer's guitar fell off mid-song and that just tipified the gig really. In short, we just had a total howler!
  10. The Cooper Temple Clause. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but they had some ballsy tunes.

  12. Buzz Aldrin's mother's maiden name was Moon.
  13. PwC in Scotland - SPL Annual Financial Review | PwC Scottish football spending review 2010 Pricewaterhousecooper do the annual financial reports for the SPL, looks like you need to register to view them but I'm sure the results are available online somewhere.
  14. Wouldn't mind to be going this year but can't manage. Not a bad line up this time round and a cracking wee festival, brilliant setting for a main stage as well. Have a good one if you are playing/watching!
  15. The Lemonheads. One of the first bands I properly got int and gave a few of their albums a play the other day. Crackin' stuff.
  16. If he is going to improve the squad I'd like to think he would but it all depends on who he signs for and how he returns from injury. Having a creative player up top would be a big asset to us and is perhaps something we are lacking. He was always better for his country so whether he can play well enough a club level to deserve a call up is another thing.
  17. We also have Faddy to come back to the side. It will be intersting to see how he returns after his injury and to what sort of form. With the midfield MilnerD mentioned and Faddy playing wide left or off a main striker we could have some real threat. We have some talented strikers who just seem to fall off the rails, if one of them grows up we might have a goalscorer! Agree about the defence though, we just can't seem to get a partnership or a dominating centre half in. We'd as well have Titus Bramble in than a Caldwell
  18. JJ to be the next manager at Kaunas?
  19. I can't wait for Romanov's statement on JJ's sacking.
  20. I could see our group becoming very tight with several of the teams being in the running with the final game or two to go. I can't see anyone running away with the group so should be an interesting one to watch. I'm going to be optimistic and say we'll be in the running for second but each team represents a tricky match rather than anything being considered a write off or an easy three points.
  21. Only caught the game online yesterday but plenty of positives to take from it. Very well organised and structured, strong performances from Foster and Fyvie and the new guys look decent buys. Seems like we have a squad full of hardworkers and hopefully this should make us a tough side to beat. Probably still need one or two more signings though. A striker and wide midfielder would be nice.
  22. I've been the last two years and really enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking and you won't see any major acts but there are some good performances to be seen and you may well catch a good new band. In the times I've been there I've caught some decent performances. It has a family feel to it but still has a lively atmosphere later on if that is what you are after.
  23. He sent Juan Sara to Dundee.
  24. Picking this up again for a drummer. May have some new acoustic demos soon and will have these available to email on if required.
